    I have to say that little habaki was hard to make. It is very small. Now it's on to restoring some Japanese kitchen knives. I'll post those when done. Both will get a saya, polished and handles. I had some training for work today, but off again now so finding things to keep busy.

    The rash is not fun and lasts over a week. Im free of it now. I wear gloves and wash thoroughly, but still seem to get it.

    Latest project is a charcuterie board. Just need to find some meat and cheese now.

    Finished some more spoons in the fuki technique. They are cherry, walnut or maple and each has 6-8 coats. I am working on serving boards and possibly sword stands and tsuba stands as well. Also, got my first and second urushi rash. Second time was not fun. Luckily, im in healthcare now and a steroid shot shortened my suffering.

    No signature, just file marks. I kinda wondered about the polish. Luckily they did not touch the patina on the tang. I wonder if it would be possible to fix the amateur job. I'm sure it wouldn't make much financial sense, but it would look very cool to fix it and display. I imagine most togishi wont touch these.

    Not sure if this is the right spot, but picked up this little yanone for $30. Not sure if it is real. Does look old with appropriate patina. Overall length is 22cm and the "blade" is 6cm. Love to hear the thoughts of anyone more experienced.

    Very nice work, makes me want to try this. Where did you get your supplies and/or what did you use? When you get done frame it deserves a frame!

    I carve spoons amongst other woodworking. This is my first spoon finished with urushi. It was quite a time consuming process, but a lot of fun. May do some larger items if my skill can cope. Appreciate any advice from more experienced tree sap slingers. Oh, and no rash yet.

    I feel like I've seen tsuka with fabric instead of samekawa under the tsuka-ito. Polish looks pretty good for that price. Be interesting to see some better shots of the blade.

    Didnt mean to derail the thread, those are very nice shitodome. Another source I have used is sanmei.com. They have silver gold plated ones and a silver one as well. Both companies are very nice to order from. Grant, I think I may order that chisel from Japanese woodworker. They aren't cheap though...

    Google showed me that Haruaki made some nice stuff. Aoi has a pretty neat Mount Fuji tsuba listed which offered a good comparision point. In my novice oppinion the signatures differ a bit. Still, I enjoy the carving (I thought that was the god of wealth not fertility) and really dig the copper. The re-patination is an interesting idea and I will have to do some research on that. I didn't know that was a thing until now. I hope I can sneak more out from under some salty dogs like Stephen.

    Took a chance and placed a bid on this and unexpectedly won. Size wise it is 6.5 x 7 cm approximately. Would this be wakizashi size? It appears to be all copper and I am told depicts Daikoku and is signed Haruaki. I am guessing it is most likely gimei. Either way it is either an inexpensive lession in what not to buy or perhaps a decent beginners piece.

    I can say it is eye opening to someone who is quite new to Japanese swords. As has been said many times on this site, know who you are buying from and use the resources available to you. There is a wealth of knowledge here if you take the time before you purchase.
