  1. @ Stephen: Interesting thought, but the zogan themes under the sukashi fans don´t seem to fit in any particular occasion or season. Furthermore I think it would be much easier and cheaper, to change the tsuba than to build such a complex piece?! @ Pietro: No option, to flip the central piece, because the zogan on the center piece is only in the matching area of the sukashi. @ Andi: ... have to check that out!
  2. @Bazza: A puzzle for a very simple minded Daimyo?! The tree should also be zogan! @members: No ideas???

    Puzzle tsuba

Dear members, today I want to introduce you the strangest tsuba of my collection. Because I haven´t ever seen any similar or even comparable piece, I´d like to hear your opinions on this ´puzzle tsuba´. The dimensions are: 83mm x 79mm x 3x1,4mm Nice Awa Shoami tsuba! BAAM ... ??? Has anybody seen such a type of tsuba (yes, I know 3-parted tachi tsuba!), can post any pictures or has any helpful idea? Looking forward to your reply, Tom
  4. Looking forward to see many very nice people and lots of good stuff Hope, I can resist the temptation
  5. IZIPIZI ... the tsuba shows obviously a ´vacation at the beach´ motiv I´d really love to see the backside with the ... TEENIE WEENIE YELLOW POLKA DOT BIKINI
  6. What a great find!!! I cannot keep up with that, even though I found this tsuba a few years ago on a local antique market between lots of nonjapanese stuff for a real bargain price. The dealer already knew what it was, but he did not at all know what he had ... lucky me!!! Still one of the best and favourite tsuba of my collection
  7. Hi guys, thanks to all your friendly comments and for the great interest in the kojiri at first! As recommended by Brian, I moved the Kojiri to the ´for sale section´. Please have a look I would be very glad to help any member completing a guribori koshirae. Have a nice sunday, Tom
  8. The kojiri is still for sale ...
  9. Hi folks, today I stumbled across this old thread and remembered a guri bori kojiri, which is still lying in my bottom drawer. Is anybody looking for such a very rare part to complete a guri bori koshirae? The patina is not in best condition and it would pretty much benefit from a professional revision, but it is still real guri bori (even if the layer patina is very hard to realize). Best, Tom
  10. @ Chris K.: I think, you´re absolutely right with your evaluation ... with one exception: I think, the second kanji is a ´sato´ @Scott: If you don´t like that dragon, just send me a note! Best, Tom
  11. Hi Grev, I think the mei reads ´Sadanaga´ or ´Teimei´. Best, Tom
  12. Noooo... Why didn´t you tell me before I decided to fill in the wrong fuel into my car´s tank !? Now all my money has been spent on the repair and I can´t pay that bargain price for the Higo set Hmmm ... maybe I could sell the car ... Does anybody need an old Mazda 323? If that Higo set should not sell quickly, I´d be very interested!!! Best, Tom
  13. Sorry, but I have to disagree, guys ... neither sand-blasting nor chemical treatment could cause this appearance. Looking at this piece carefully it is obviously, that there are only the tips of the former heavy corrosion furbished, but the valleys do still carry patina. In any case of blasting or chemical treatment, the low lying parts of the tsuba would also have been affected. In my opinion you can only achieve this by rubbing it mechanical with some sort of hard to semisoft grinding medium like steel wool or maybe a common grinding sponge (don´t know the correct term, sorry) for cleaning pots and pans. Well, not that my own first attempts in cleaning cheap rusty tsuba about 20 years ago would have caused exactly the same effect ... B.t.w.: Of course this is an old Edo piece and not a cast repro! This kind of tsuba has been mass produced in various qualities and is very typical for the Kinai groop. Best, Tom
  14. My pleasure! Glad, you´re lucky with the tsuba ... maybe you find some more pieces of interest in my current sale!? Best, Tom

  19. Okay ... in Bavaria we use both words, PROSIT and PROST. The ´Prosit´ has the meaning of ´a toast´, so ´ein Prosit auf die Gemütlichkeit´ means ´a toast to the coziness´ and ´Prost´ simply means ´Cheers´ So anytime, you visit Bavaria or the Oktoberfest and clink your ´Maß´ with the funny clothed natives just use ´PROST´ with a deep sounding voice and you might be considered domestic PROST
  20. Got me, Guido I was really hoping, that no one would take notice of me ´prosting´ with a Choshu tsuba
