  1. Hi, This is currently for sale on eBay and I thought I'd have a go at the translation. Here are my two guesses (not sure of the last kanji) I already mirrored the pic of the nakago. 和州住兼忠 和州住兼家 So either Kanetada or Kaneie. Aynone care to enlighten me? I also thought samoji mei was rare as in only KANEYASU SA MUTSU and KANEYASU MIGI MUTSU used it ?
  2. Yeah I know, at the moment it's only guitars :-) But like they said - they hope to add categories !
  3. fwiw : I've received following mail today from Nichido (from Jauce). I don't know if their own web auction will feature tsuba or other nihonto-related stuff. Japan Auction Center has just launched Tokyowin Auctions!. Now, users from outside of Japan can directly bid on Tokyowin Auctions and have the items shipped to their home country. Stay tuned in the coming months for new categories and updates. http://www.tokyowin.com Best regards Nichido http://www.jauce.com
  4. Hi John, Jauce are the old JapanAuctionCenter (JAC) - they're not cheap (i think about 8% on top of the selling price with a minimum and off course there's shipping) - but they do respond well to mails and they get the job done in a more than satisfying way (I even bought a yari through them, pole and all, and it was very well packaged for something over 2 meters long). Just be sure to compensate for the extra costs when you're bidding, otherwise you might get a nasty surprise. If you follow Yahoo Auctions through them, you'll find a lot of stuff that ends up on eBay through various sellers :-)
  5. You can find some more hakogaki of Torigoye here : http://www.silk-road.us/torigoye.html
  6. Hi Mark, Sure, here's the seller's site. He's a bit unrealistic in his prices and descriptions, but this particular blade drew my attention, because he was selling it as a Gassan and I immediately recognized san-pin (Mishina) on the NTHK paper. Another thing which I thought to be peculiar is the 6-barrel teppo he has (only 35.000 AUD !) http://www.cmmilitaryantiques.com/gallery.php?arid=1745
  7. Thx Chris, The nakago is indeed in bad shape, and the date would explain their educated guess. There's not so many candidates off course for a Kanemitsu from the Mishina-den. It would be somewhat different with Yoshimichi or Kanemichi
  8. found this in Hawleys : KAN 1489 - Settsu - 1716 - Kanemichi school - rated 15 - 1st gen Mishina Tajima no Kami Fujiwara Kanemitsu KAN 1490 - Settsu - 1748 - rated 15 - 2nd gen Tajima no Kami Kanemitsu
  9. Domo arrigato gozaemasu ! I will have a look this evening in my books to see if I can find something about this elusive smith. Did the origami actually say that it is "thought to be" the nidai ? So the shinsapanel weren't sure either ?
  10. Mes excuses !
  11. You mean http://www.ksky.ne.jp./~sumie99/ :-)
  12. Thanks Moriyama-san ! This would explain Jean's translation of the date (lesson learnt - always trust Jean's judgement!) - is there anything in the nakago description except the mei and the nengo - I think the mei is partially unreadable ? Or any more info regarding this nidai ?
  13. Hi Jean, That would be an issue, because Mishina Kanemitsu died in 1732... 宝暦 Hôreki would date this blade to 1763.
  14. Hi, I translated the smith on this paper as Mishina Kanemitsu. I never heard of him, but apparently it's another name for the sandai Kanemichi. Kanemichi, 3rd generation, 1711, Settsu, Tango (no) Kami Kanemichi 丹後守兼道. He's the adopted son of the nidai. Fujishiro listed him as Mishina Tajima (no) Kami Minamoto Kanemitsu and died in 1732 KANEMITSU MISHINA [HEI 1704 SETTSU] SHINT CHJSAKU He is called Mishina Monday, is the adopted son of nidai Kanemichi, and he died in Kyh Jshichinen (1732). Signature: MISHINA TAJIMA NO KAMI MINAMOTO KANEMITSU The date to me seems 享保 Kyôhô 12 so 1728 (which would fit the description). Can anyone give me more info about what the origami says about the mei ? It's being sold as a Gassan blade strangely enough, although if you look at the hada, you'll see why :-)
  15. Could it be ato 後 ? From ATO MEI - 後銘 - signature added at a later date
  16. To everyone and their families all the best for the New Year !
  17. Hi Eric, The koshirae was my favorite of the auction too : http://www.lempertz-online.de/gldet.asp?v=k1026400009730053300001&mkat=0&mablos=533&msb=&martist=0
  18. Hi Grey, I've played around with the Bizen Taikan index and made a .pdf sorted by pagenumber and further on sorted by name. For those interested : BizenTaikanIndex.pdf
  19. This somewhat contradictory message on JAC : Nov 17, 2010: Japan Post restriction for parcels weighing 453 grams or more to the U.S.: Since Japan Auction Center already has a service contract with Japan Post, this restriction is NOT valid for us but for individuals and companies without a contract. So, we continue to ship to the U.S. up to 30kg as usual.
