  1. Very interesting read Henry - don't forget the Choshu school - they also use the sansui theme very often.
  2. Thanks Henry! Makes sense I guess, although there are only tsuba in this volume.
  3. Hi, I came across this book I've had for a few years now, and although I know it holds Choshu tsuba, the exact title eludes me. I think the following stands for Iwakuni Museum + Kashiwabara collection: However the subtitle I have no idea about: Any help would be appreciated.
  4. I'm also with Barry on this one - I can commit to more copies if the price is that low.
  5. Looks close to the 4th gen kyotamba - can't say gimei or not. From my archives they range in price around 7000-10000 USD - and that's for in polish papered pieces.
  6. FT200 NBTHK Hirata Shippo FK They're magnificent! Too bad I'm currently not in a buying position.
  7. Bidding was not that unusual, that one guy upped his maximum bid a lot of times, but if you look at his account, you'll see that only 2% of his eBay biddings were with that specific seller. So in my opinion, he bit of more than he could chew and asked the seller to cancel the sale? Just my opinion...
  8. Yep, I also bought a few things from him already - every time it was a good experience! He has very interesting items every now and then and doesn't sugar coat the flaws as some other sellers do.
  9. Would not go with Onin because the hitsuana aren't fully lined?
  10. Just add: http://markussesko.wordpress.com/feed/ to your RSS reader.
  11. Very nice blog and a very worthwhile read - bookmarked and added to RSS feeds
  12. 代金五拾枚 - dai-kinsu go mai/Worth 5 gold coins 磨上無銘也 - suriage mumei nari/ it's suriage mumei, but judged (authentic) 長弐尺弐寸七分 - nagasa ni shaku ni sun shichi bu Some clearer pictures might help...
  13. Sure, here you go... http://www.ebay.com/itm/160732028408
  14. Justin, Why did you ask for the translation? It's clearly and correctly stated in the eBay description. And as descriptions go, this is one of the more complete ones on ePrey. - I have no connection to this eBay sale whatsoever -
  15. 国善 Kuniyoshi ? (not sure about Kuni - seems to be some extra strokes on top?) 定尾 Sadao? (not sure of reading)
  16. Very worthwhile effort indeed !
  17. Klefish will include Mosle catalogues in their next sale (13/10): http://www.klefisch.com/index.php?page_id=4&catalog=51&catalog_cat=4539&page=0&itemid=19410
  18. A similar tsuba sold recently on eBay - they do pop up every now and then

    Who were the best

A few years ago I bought a Yoshimichi (I think Osaka-tamba sandai) - it's currently waiting to be polished. I think it all depends on the work. However they are all quite well regarded and Mishina work tends to sell pretty fast. Seeing you had a tanto, that was even somewhat rare, seeing most of their work are o-wakizashi or katana. I also have a Tango no Kami Naomichi (early signature of Kanemichi) with a very nice ura-mei (生鍛 宍粟䥫 造 之)
  20. Hi Paul, Maybe one of these? (some are wakizashi) - maybe you can haggle it down to your budget? http://www.aoi-art.com/sword/katana/11507.html http://www.aoi-art.com/sword/wakizashi/12168.html http://www.aoi-art.com/sword/wakizashi/12310.html
  21. I remember this popped up before: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7033&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
  22. Thanks for the clarification!
  23. Thanks for the answer Jean, however, I remember seeing a papered tsuka once - just the tsuka, with pics of the tsuka on the Hozon paper. I didn't translate the paper, so I don't know if the whole tsuka was papered or just the kodogu on the tsuka (as a set?)
  24. Is it possible to paper a set of menuki attached to an aikuchi tsuka, so without binding, but attached to the samé?
  25. Your friend was right I'm afraid ... a very obvious Chinese fake - and a bad one at that
