Also, could the aborted polishing be a signal of fatal kizu? or they would have stopped earlier. I mean, do you think the unfinished polish is in an advanced stage?

Sadly, juyo blades don't grow on trees xD That notch is hard to say,it doesnt make it to the other side but has that yellowish ocre rust that are on mekugi ans but kinda look just as a flaw?Tomorrow i will post pics with more light. And concerning the window, can you recommend a good polisher in Europe? Thanks

Weren't wakis with these shape common between footsoldiers? I readed that in many ocassions this shape was preffered over the classic shinogi zukuri because it was a heavier and chop chop lethal in close combats.I mainly deduced it could been military for the markings, but now i'm doubt.Nagasa is 40cm

I got this blade in poor conditions for relatively low and i have some doubts . It has a bad/unfinished polish and some rust splash with spider scratches on the edge.Shape is good and is very sharp(almost razor). Its likely been in military usage, its mumei but has on the tang like 4 straight horizontal lines that could be 22,to keep track at an armory? or was the blade nº22 of a swordsmith order? My doubts are: it was forged like this or it was shortened? Does anyone who recoginze the shape guess the age(shinto?)? Is worth of polish? Thanks Sinceresly

Unusual Small Blade Id (Non-Traditional?)
dominnimod replied to dominnimod's topic in Military Swords of Japan
I have made a sketch to illustrate some things of the blade that might be unperceptible from photos to see if this could por some light into the investigation.Left side hamon is not visible so i didn't draw it -
Are you 100% sure it's Japanese?

Unfortunately, there are people who doesn't respect antiques and only care about money,in this case,he will get a well deserved loss, the waki however...

Help Identifying Unsigned Katana Age Or Type
dominnimod replied to Daso's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Is an old long sword cutted down(so maybe could have been signed originally) , so is hard to say how old is it exactly, experts in this forum could make a wild guess about age/school by looking the hamon, but without the original shape, all i can say it is around early edo(shinto) -

Unusual Small Blade Id (Non-Traditional?)
dominnimod replied to dominnimod's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Yeah, read that too,war period militar production swords that stayed in Japan were cutted down and sword owning was controlled after war, however, this blade's seems older than ww2 and has no edge -

I think i will simply dump this one to the sea,too much headaches xD, now i have another blade,a mumei koto-shinto nagamki naoshi that just found to have some markings, like 4 straight horizontal lines, any ideas what do they mean?military markings?or it began to be signed and for some reason it wasn't finished, Thoughts? -

About the edge thing, the habaki fits it perfectly, and the edge has file marks, thats the thing and my concern,it doesnt seem to ever been sharpened -
Unusual Small Blade Id (Non-Traditional?)

I wanted to change it from category because i think it fits this one better, but i don't know how to remove past posts -
A couple weeks ago i received my first blade,a meiji mumei bare tanto in deplorable conditions with a lot of active rust.First i made a shirasaya(very weird looking )Then ,after some cleaning i managed to remove the red rust. After asking in general forums it doesn't seem to be traditional so i post it here to see if someone recognize what it is exactly. Its main pecualiarities are: -Size:nagasa 16cm -Shape:shinogi zukuri -Diferentially hardened(has hamon) -Has no edge(can't cut paper) Some wild ideas we got are that it could be a ww2 pilot tanto, or part of a broken huge sw ord(the heavier a sword is,the less edge it needs) ,or a boy's sword.Any help is appreciated. Thanks

First Japanese Blade And Restoration Proyect
dominnimod replied to dominnimod's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Ok,thanks for all ,also,it seems like i ignored the most obvious option as Ed said, could it be a broken older wakizashi/katana/tachi reshaped into a tanto? That would explain the shape, not being very sharpened, the weird looking nakago, tha blade having hamon and hada and the mekugi ana. I will follow your advise and store it oiled for now. -

xDD, that was hilarious, but my point is,if the blade is worth so little that no one is gonna bother restoring,i could at least give a try, right? -

The tang actually has different shape in both faces And yeah,i really like the tanto, the shape overall ,but i noticed it haven't been sharpened by the lower part and neither much in the upper part of the blade, thous being tempered, Maybe this blade was done for a Japanese doll or something like that? -

Ah ok, i thought nihonto could refer to all traditionally made Japanese blade, but i guess this one is not. ಠ_ಥ Now i will be out for a week, but when i return i think i will acid etch the blade to see the hamon. Even if it's not a quality blade, its still a nice tanto for 60$ ,right? -

Yep, i know its quite unusual, but i have seem some similar shapes from ww2 tantos(i found this one for example(same mekugi ana): http://www.ebay.com/itm/La-Segunda-Guerra-Mundial-llevar-a-casa-japonesa-Officer-tanto-Kamikaze-knife-sword-Mira-/261981166334?_ul=AR&nma=true&si=ypJihtD9wCJN7hkKTlBAwM%252FNoFs%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Also, the blade is diferentially hardened,it has hamon, and also file marks on the tang under the patina. It even has kizu like blister and shinae. Looking at it in hand seems Japanese 100%,should i upload more photos? -

No,is much smaller than what it seems ,the nagasa is actually like 15 or 16 cm,but yes,its has a shinogi zukuri shape and that's one of the main reasons why i bought it,it looks like a micro-katana -

Thats's why is a restoration project, where i invest my time to try to end with a good looking piece from a blade who most people would call junk and would't bother doing anything. -
A couple weeks ago i received my first blade,a meiji mumei bare tanto in deplorable conditions with a lot of active rust.First i made a shirasaya(very weird looking )Then ,after some cleaning i managed to remove the red rust and 'partially' make it shine. The problem is that it has some big black stains along the blade that doesn't come off(Under light they look red/dark brown)Any ideas of how to remove them? Thanks -Jose
