Did Anybody Here Buy This Wakizashi?
dominnimod replied to TheGermanBastard's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
I don't get why it went so high? Chinese habaki, crude modern tsuba and the handle have been most likely glued. Seems like some amateur crude attempt of restoring a vet sword -
T11 and Big box are on hold

Many thanks Johni, will do

Good evening nmb, Here today, i bring a relatively big sale of tosogu, including 15 tsubas (quite a few ko kinko) and some spare parts. Warning, here comes a big chunk of text about my life that you can simply skip if you want ( i would ) My name is José Ubaldo López, here at the forum dominnimod, and here today, this sale puts an end to a stage of my life. I have been member of this forum since january 2016, even though i think i had been lurking for a year before joining. I think i might be on the group of the youngest members on this forum since im currently 18, and i have to say, this forum is priceless. The mix of infinite knoledge plus the huge quantity of members willing to share and help have make me feel like home here. I don't know what it is, but there's is something enigmatic and tragic about art and nihonto that instantly caught my attention 3 years ago and still does. Every piece of koshirae, every blade is unique , reflecting the skill of someone who lived, loved, thought and felt the same way we do around 1000 to 200 years ago. It kindda feels like the animals at the zoo or circus, like they don't belong here but haven't the ability to simply return to their masters and owners. During these past 3 years i have really enjoyed reading and studying pieces, however, i'm now obliged to reduce my collection to just a pair of tsubas. I have made some mistakes and now i have to pay for them. I choosed wrong my studies(public relations) at university, got very bored and a bit depressed and had to drop out. Now i'm going to try to study engineering which is what i really wanted to study but ran away fearing from failure, as it is said to be quite dificult. However i know understand that i rather suffer studying maths, at least i won't be bored Because of this, now i need some money and it's also better to travel lightweight without many attachments. So here i bring the collection i built in around 3 years, result of selling my old toys and hunting on the deeps of fleabay for good deals. Here is the pdf i made in some days, inspired by the ones of Grev https://es.scribd.com/document/367016046/Winter-2017-Sale Imporant things: -Almost half of the tsubas come with box. -If they don't have box, a small bag will be included to store it ( it's not exactly like the one on the photo but close enough) -Every purchase include a Free extra little thing. -Quality of the photos on the pdf is quite terrible, so if you need ones better, ask me for more. -I have to sell them so if you see something you like, don't hesitate to make an offer! And thats all, -Payment method: Paypal (Family and friends on Europe). And to friends on Overseas i will pay the taxes. -Shipping method: Correos(standard national spanish courier): Fast and cheap, around 20 for a tsuba, i should consult it. Could also use some other method. Have a nice day and happy christmas!

Unusual Items In Tanto Koshirae
dominnimod replied to Ray Singer's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Wow, really enjoyed that, thanks for sharing! -
About purchasing tsuba boxes, its not really necessary, but will keep your tsuba collection safe and comfy, some weeks ago i made the inversion to give boxes to every tsuba i have and those that will come and i can only recommend it, It's a neat visual upgrade

Maybe i'm wrong, but as far as i know the signing habit started in the edo period, as tsuba making got more complex. Not idea if pre edo signatures exist.

Well, we all have our collection of missmatched fuchi, right? Not much value imho, but they can be worth collecting to someone, one mans trash is another's treasure after all.

Samurai Art Museum Unusual Weapons.

A huge Yari with an axe head attached to the mounting? I wonder if it was designed for hunting purposes -
Im my honest personal opinion, old swords have already fulfilled their purpose and can be left to rest as historic pieces and works of art, or in this case, a memory of your granfather. Again, just my personal opinion, Sinceresly

I think there is a family mon/crest composed of two fans like that, not sure though Edit: Found these three: 1.fans, 2.feathers and 3.arrows?

I actually saw some of these pieces in person in Málaga. They were donated by a French collector, who mainly collected prints , to the museum in the past century. It's sad because this pieces are now degrading in a humid warehouse, as they are rarely being exhibited. Not many Japanese art lovers here i guess. Please, don't donate your pieces to museums, private collections will preserve them longer.

Fuchi is heianjo school.
-
My 2 last purchases, early yamagane guards, circa 1500: Notice the huge nakago ana on the second relative to it's size, giving away that it was once mounted as an uchigatana.

Quick newie question, what is the difference between an heianjo-shiki and yoshiro- shiki tsuba? Do yoshiro's always carry crests sukashi? I have this little one: This one is a yoshiro with a similar wine, bamboo work:
-
Likely not a daisho, simply 2 tsuba with the same design and work , samurais were fashion victims. I mean, you can mount them as daisho tsuba, and they will look great, but actual daisho tsubas were not about merely being identical, they had to complement each other, they had to add to the general composition, if that makes sense. Make a bigger, better design the two together. Of course, here i am speaking of those tsuba exclusively made as a dasiho. Samurais also carried daisho with tsubas wich simply were of the same school and theme, if you search daisho tsuba in google, you will find tons of examples of this last practice.

My wild guess: The tsuba seems namban work?, but the design isn't from that school?. Fuchi and kashira seems mino dragons. Low end pieces . All late edo period, 19th
-
I wouldn't assume they are post 45/ fake. Maybe is the lighting, maybe it have been treated with something weird, or horrorous repatination, but the tsuba seems real. Low quality production piece( casted and hand finished?) but antique. If the pics don't deceive me you can see the small brass inlay in the dragon eyes. Fuchi and kashira are real antique as well, but also low end
