  1. Looking forward to the new book Grev! I have both paper and e copies of the first one.
  2. Actual reality would be pretty boring to watch. They have to script it to try to make it interesting.
  3. Even worse than needing it, is just plain wanting it, lol.
  4. I feel your pain. I've got a package coming from Germany and it's painful looking at the tracking. Seems to be going nowhere, but I know it will get here in due time.
  5. I have a tsuba or two to donate. How about instead of a raffle, hold an auction with the proceeds going to the board. I don't know what the logistics of that would look like or if it is even possible, but the proceeds to the board could be greater.
  6. The fireplace will cause low humidity which should not be a problem for blades. However, it will cause issues (shrinkage) with wood items such as the shirasaya or tsuka. They will possibly crack with too low humidity. Humidity is something that is very much a concern with my acoustic guitars.
  7. Thanks, it's a nice sized blade, 31mm at the machi.
  8. Every thread is better with pictures so I'll take this opportunity to try to add a few. This is a mumei Wakizashi attributed to Sendai Kunikane, NBTHK Hozon.
  9. As Grey mentioned the show was rather sparsely attended, but it seemed that everyone was having a good time. I attended the talks on Saturday by Markus on "The impact of Shinshinto and Bakumatsu eras on Meiji Swordsmiths" and Chris on "The Kato Smiths of Meguro, Tokyo". Both were interesting and well done. Chris included several blades on display for the attendees to view. Overall, I came home with less cash and more metal and reference material, so it was a good weekend!!
  10. Since everyone else is posting pics, I figured I should too. Just to prove it really happened.
  11. I had a two piece habaki that had a piece of the gold foil separated from the habaki. I contacted Brian Tschernega about getting it repaired and forwarded the habaki and the loose piece of foil to him a while back. I received the habaki in the mail today and it looks great. He was able to reattach the original foil and cleaned up the habaki. It looks like new. If you need any similar repair work done I can fully recommend Brian.
  12. The only French I've learned is off of wine bottles, but so far that has served me well.
  13. Thanks to Joe for putting this together. It was a great way to spend an afternoon. It was an interesting group makeup with a variety of interests and experience, all willing to talk and share. I liked the "show and tell" theme of the meeting. You can never look at too many swords and this meeting had a nice mixture from Koto to Gendaito. I'm looking forward to the next meeting during the Minneapolis Show. Again, thanks Joe!!
  14. My mumei Tanto with silver fittings.
  15. I'll be in Minneapolis in July with at least one sword in hand. Haven't decided yet what to bring. Was only planning on bringing one, but may have to bring the Kunifusa as an extra.
  16. I received the two swords from Ray today and believe me, the pictures don't do them justice. They look even better in hand. Good communication, quick shipping, and a product that is better than described, it doesn't get any better than that. Thanks Ray and NMB!!
  17. I assume the bids have to be in increments of 1000, but not limited to 1000. First bidder bids 99,000. Second bidder bids something over 100,000. Results in high bid being 100,000.
  18. It almost doubled in price in the last 15 seconds due to three bidders. Just what every eBay seller hopes for!!
  19. I agree Pete!! Books are a great reference and are needed to progress, but you can't beat laying eyes on high quality pieces. You have to actually see what the books are trying to tell you. The combination of good reference material along with observing high quality items is the way to progress in this hobby. With the shows in Chicago, Tampa, Orlando, and San Francisco they are within reach of most everyone in the US. Do yourself a favor and get to one or more of them and look at some quality blades and tosogu. It will give you examples of what you have read about.
  20. I'm interested, thanks for the opportunity!!
  21. Wow!! Great job, I enjoyed them all.
  22. Derek hit the nail on the head. If you haven't been to a show you owe it to yourself to attend one. Being able to view so many blades, attend the presentations, and talk to people is a learning experience you can't get anywhere else.
