  1. It is a military sword using machine made steel. Some military edged weapon collectors would love to have it. However, there are some that are being fitted with old family blades that will appeal to the Nihonto collector....

  5. Find expert and honest dealers & work with them is key! However, basing on my new experiences, many dealers (even English speaking dealers) are so busy trying to close sales quick that many don't border to teach (in the sense of helping new collector find direction in how to form a nice collection) or entertain new comers... perhaps they think that the budget from the new comers are too small and would prefer to deal with experience collectors.
  6. Is this Chinese fake? The maker seems to put his name and date of making on the mei..
  7. Hi! I'm new to the hobby too. Nice trade and find. With the paper, you know it's antique sword worthy of preservation, even though the actual date was not stated. I'm sure many experience collector will be able to help you narrow it down to which era... Regards, Francis

  15. Hi I am from Singapore and I am a vintage watch and pens collector and I have joined the Nihonto forum two months ago by making a mistake of posting a small knife (I love the Maki E though) and received some "bashing" as new comer,.. making my orientation to the Nihonto a fast one. Luckily i have the support of Jean and Daniel who has helped to point the directions in the field of Nihonto for me. Now I focus on reading books and going through the old posts in order to prepare myself to participate in the forum. Hope to be able to show you some real Japanese Nihonto soon..but not yet as I still need to research more...but i now know what I want to collect.. Thanks! Francis
