  1. Francis - Here are pictures that show the hamon and pics of the Nakago without the tsuba and habaki. Marius and Geraint - I would like to hear your input what with the new pictures. Francis - Please let me know if you are going to bid on this. If you are not, then I probably will. Thanks all
  2. Francis - I have asked for photo's of the entire hamon explaining that the light/flash washed out a section. (This should clear up the question from Marius.) I have also asked for pictures of both sides of the Nakago with the tsuba and habaki removed. (This should clear up the comment from Geraint.) I will forward them to you if you are still interested. I am also interested in the blade but as the great suggestions listed above point out, I need to validate all that I can before taking a calculated gamble.
  3. Steve - Thank you so much for this. I try to collect all of the background information possible and the story that this sword is beginning to tell is awesome. Again, thanks for the extended effort. If our paths ever cross the drinks are on me. Jesse

A quick question, I am thinking of sending 2 of my blades to AoiJapan for touch up polish (that is all they need). So, I am asking for any experiences/opinions as the reliability/trust worthiness of this shop. They seem to have very nice swords for very reasonable prices and I like the fact that if they cannot validate a signature they sell it as 'not authenticated' and price it accordingly. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
  5. very cool, I plan on driving down for the show with a couple of my swords. hope to meet up with you then jesse
  6. John, thank you so much. now I will print out the reference and work on my matching ability. Jesse
  7. I bought this blade a couple of months ago and was told that it was a Jumyo blade. For the life of me I cannot seem to match it to any of the Jumyo signatures out there. I know my eyes are bad but it is frustrating. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Jesse
  8. Thanks for all of the info. and now I know. Jesse
  9. Members - I have been trying to figure out what type of soft medal is used to fill holes (Meguki, Tsuba, etc). If any one can point me to the appropriate documentation/forum, it would be greatly appreciated. Jesse
  10. I'm lucky, my kids are already fighting over who gets what sword. They put little sticky notes to the back of the saya claiming ownership. It's pretty funny actually. Jesse
  11. Jason, I live in Charlotte, NC and would love to get together and talk swords. Ping via my email 'jesseunderland@yahoo.com and lets see if we can hook up. Regards, Jesse
  12. John - I don't have the funds now (have to replace the thermostat in my vehicle, very expensive) but if you still have this in September please let me know. This is a great blade and would look fantastic in my personal collection. Thanks
  13. Thanks much Klaus. I don't think I would have gotten that on my own.
  14. Does anyone know of additional places to find this swordsmith? I have searched the NMB links and cannot find any information for a 'Jotaro Mitsukazu'. Thanks in advance.
  15. Mr. Moriyama, Can you point out the family name for me? I believe the family name should be modern (WWII) as this seems to be an old family blade that the soldier took to war with him. The saya and tsuka state the exact same thing. It could be a way for the blade to get back to the family in the case of death. Please correct me if I am wrong here as I am still learning (and will be for the rest of my life). Jesse Underland
  16. Thanks Stephen, I found this out through my research but could not really put any context between the blade and the song. Jesse
  17. Here is a more readable picture, at least I hope it is. Warm regards, Jesse
  18. Mr. Morita, Does the writing say what the nickname of this sword is? Warm Regards, Jesse
  19. Guys - I have one more that I need assistance on. Don't really know much about the blade except what my fathers friend told me (nothing helpful, just very colorful). He also showed me the saya and tsuka and they each had the same characters written. Only writing was on the omote side. Please let me know if the attachments are readable or not. Warm regards, Jesse
  20. Thank you Mr. Morita. Jesse
  21. all, many thanks for the translation help. You validated the information that was presented with the blade. And seeing as I cannot read Japanese your help is a godsend to me. Brian, I am currently trying to authenticate of the blade. I will post further updates as i figure this out. I need to see if I can determine the maker or school it came from next.
  22. Can someone help to translate this signature? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Kamen rider will be glad too. Have no idea why that name from watching cartoons in Japan when I was small just jumped into my head. Thanks, Jesse
  23. Wanting to know if someone has the time to help me in a tang translation. Thanks Jesse
