  4. Gentlemen Has any member in the UK got the relevent portion of the Offensive Weapons Act 2008 which shows the restrictions and exemptions on Samurai Swords. Henry
  5. Moss Recently, say in the last couple of months, Ive noticed one or two differently named small sellers, some Japanese some American based selling items such as Tsuba,Swords and parts of Armour. The only thing in common that Ive seen they have so far is a ludicrously low starting price, and some prices stay low. So far Ive been tempted to two Tsuba and am awaiting the second Wakazashi in shirasaya. Its with great trepidation one approaches such an offer, but so far no nasty surprises. The articles as far as I can tell are both real and genuine. But talk about run of the mill, they most certainly would not light up any gathering but I would say none of them are fake, just nothing special, very ordinary!! Anyone else encountered something like this.? Henry
  6. Gentlemen; I have one on my wall in front of me as a reminder; its a Tachi bought in Shanghai and the eel skin......turns out to be sticky back plastic; This one though from some years ago cost £10 and £34 postage. At least it came from China; Henry
  7. Ian B./ Brian Gentlemen; I agree entirely with Ian's reaction. Henry
  8. Gentlemen I have just read a message from E-Bay offering a Petition for signature saying some leading brand names are seeking to ban their goods appearing on E-Bay in a bid to foil counterfeiters; It seems E-Bay view this action as a restriction of fair trade and ask for signatures to oppose this. Remember edged weapons ????? Pots,Kettles and the colour black spring readily to mind. How would it best be put,"foist on your own petard". Henry.
  9. Gentlemen I dont suppose either are for sale// Henry
  10. Sir Firstly may I respectfully suggest that you alone must make the decision as to what to collect. You have chosen a vast, complicated subject with which to get involved and to even start to do justice to a reasonable answer to your question, would take a great deal of space. May I suggest that you get yourself a copy of "The Samurai Sword. A Handbook" by John M.Yumoto. Whilst this could be called a 'potted' editioin of the subject, you will get an impression of what could be involved. Also seek out a club or association and speak to people who are actual collectors, I am sure you will benefit greatly. This Forum is made up of serious minded collectors, many of them experts so you have started off right. I wish you good luck in your endevours. Henry.

  14. Rich/Grey?Lee; Gentlemen. I thank you for your generosity of spirit and the information you have given. I'm off now round these sites to see what there is for me. My idea is to handle what is known as the real thing and I hope at least to have an idea what I seek. At least not to fall in pot holes. Henry
  15. Gentlemen; At the risk of getting a blast,I ask as a new collector for Tsuba, does anyone know of the dealer;yangyangok88868. yes he is Chinese. I wouldnt even bother to ask except he seems automatically recommended by Ebay under the guise "look what they have found for you" or something very similar. The Tsuba are all notated as pre 1800!! Henry
