  4. Hi Mikael, Out of curiousity, how much did you pay for this piece?
  5. Hi Steve, what's the eBay link to this sword? There's another Rai Kinmichi on eBay at the moment also: http://cgi.ebay.com/RAI-KINMICHI-Shinto ... dZViewItem

    Dulled Edge

I remember reading somewhere that Samurai would slash their swords in the sand/ground before battle to dull the edge. I believe the reason was that a sharp edge would bend when striking the enemy's armour whilst a dulled edge would not.

    Smith Info Request

Thank you Koichi and Ludolf. I don't suppose anyone could scan the pictures from either (or both) of the books Ludolf mentioned? Thanks again.
  10. Hello NMB Members. I'd like any information, oshigatas, photos, appriopriate links, etc. regarding the smith 'Kaga no Kami Fujiwara Sadahiro'. Thanks in advance.
  11. I know there's a member here who is very keen on dragonfly tosogu, so I thought I'd alert you to some very nice pieces up for sale on eBay. Here's the link: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrp ... FSQ3aMESOI
  12. Yes, I'm also waiting for the November Shinsa results. Hopefully we'll know soon.
  13. Thank you for doing that.
  14. Could somebody please do a translation on this hanging scroll;

    Nice Tosogu

Even though I'm not well educated about tosogu, I thought some people may be interested in seeing (or bidding on) some nice tosogu being sold on eBay. Here's the link: http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQ ... aAUQ3a1124

    Tsuba Translation

Thankyou all for the information. The tsuba shown on the thread that Mr Moriyama posted is identical but it isn't the same tsuba even though it has the exact same design and inscription. Is this perhaps an indicator of a fake?

    Tsuba Translation

Dear NMB Members, Will someone please translate this for me? Many thanks.
  18. Post some pictures and we'll see if we can help you friend.
  19. I just sent a wakizashi to Colin Griffiths at http://cgfinearts.com/ to get appraised by the NBTHK. If you are serious about getting it sent to Japan for NBTHK origami then you will have to get it sent to Mr Griffiths a.s.a.p. since he's sending the shipment of swords to Japan on the 13th or 14th of this month for November's Shinsa.
  20. For those who are interested, this sword has been sent off to Colin Griffiths (CG Fine Arts) who is sending a shipment of swords to Japan for November's NBTHK shinsa. I'll post more updates as it progresses.
  21. Both are very nice. Thankyou for sharing.
  22. A lot more than I expected. Thankyou for sharing the info.
  23. Does anyone have an approximate figure as to how many Japanese sword smiths there have been since the beginning of the Koto period up until the present time? I know this may be a tough question so I'd be interested to know, even if it was a very rough estimation.
  24. Here's a few photo's of my Hizen (Tadayoshi) wakizashi that has nashiji hada with a few tight mokume burls:
  25. You may want to email pictures to Roger Robertshaw at http://hizento.com/ who is an expert on Hizen blades. He'll give you his opinion.
