E.g. page 312: pic 71 affected, pic 72 fine... So single images have this problem, not entire pages.
-
Check e.g. 256, 257, 314, 316 and so on... It's interference of image pixels and printer dots....

Grev, haven't my kanji tables around - who made the saddle tsuba? I have a similar unsigned piece, papered to Bushu Masakata...

On Sunday, July 15th, the Japan Festival will take place in Munich. The location is between the Japanese teehouse Kanshoan (Urasenke) and "Haus der Kunst" in the "Englischer Garten". It starts at 10am and ends early 4pm (due to 2018 FIFA World Cup Final, Germany - Japan ). Many clubs will present and perform their hobbies: Ikebana, Bonsai, Drums, Dance, Singing, Pottery, Budo, Shakuhachi, Anime, Go and so on. But the highlight (at least from my point of view) will be our exhibition stand with Nihonto and Kodogu! So if you are near, come over and have a look!

Yes, Michael is missed... I'm happy that I visited the SAE on Saturday and Sunday and had the opportunity to meet so many nice people, to listen to very interesting lectures and to see and “feel“ lots of great items. Thanks to Paul, Eckhard, Mark, Chris and all other guys and girls who made this event possible! (And thanks you two for persuading me to buy the ko-kinko kogai - you know who you are...:-)) -
I think “hagire are a fatal flaw“ is too general. What is the meaning of “fatal“? It depends on the type of blade (tachi or tanto), placement and lenght of the crack, if you are a collector or a bushi and so on... I wouldn't see it too strict and focus more on the individual case...

See you there! -
Hi, I made a case from piping parts from the hardware store. Source was an online instruction for a DIY fishing rod transport case... Not sure if it's ok in a plane but at least an idea...

Hello forum members, I have a question regarding the usability of a kogai... If they are made from yamagane or shakudo etc. how rigid are they? To repair the laces of an armour or actually to pierce something I would expect a rigid tool. I'm wondering, because I have a kogai made from brass (?) and it is really soft. Maybe it's a cast reproduction (?) but anything else than opening letters or cleaning ears would bend it...

Looks like a contemporary 19th century camera. ...at least an unusual motif like the astronaut on Puerta de Ramos in the New Cathedral of Salamanca, Spain...

I'm looking forward to attend! We should wear NMB member's name signs so we can recognize each other on the fair... -
...actually I don't have any katei skills or experience (ok, Shinto is clear...) so I had a look at Andreas' spoiler and tried to verify with my books: According to the “Nihon shinto shi“ the long kinsuji and the yakidashi are characteristic for this smith and match with this blade...so my guess is the same. Looking forward to the solution and the way how to find it!

Maybe this extra hole is required for the locking mechanism of military swords (I'm not familiar with this field...).

Interesting discussion! But having natural selection in mind and considering the varieties of existing hamon styles, I came to the conclusion that it obviously makes no big difference which hamon a blade should have to kill people... Maybe I'm a yellow-belly but I would be even afraid if my opponents blade would have lots of hagire...

Hello, on Facebook Paul Martin shared this link: https://www.kendo.co.uk/2017/06/17/notification-death-victor-harris/ Sad news...

What happened to my 5MB image while uploading to the forum? It seems to be there is an additional automatic compression of the uploaded image... (4,9 MB to 80KB). ...but Ken is right: as long as the blade images are coarse, high res is for chumps too.. Shape_Changes_Over_Time_c10.zip

...I saved Jays monster png file (436 MB) as jpg (5 MB / compression 10 but same resolution). Maybe that's a bit easier to download...

Hi, it has something to do with the Dew Point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File%3ADewpoint-RH.svg Not sure if this is valid for metal surfaces but shouldn't it be possible to make a chart showing the dangerous min. temperatur of a blade at various room temperatures and relative humidities...?

Hello together I have a small shakudo? tsuba with a strange modification (actually a flaw). Something was erased from this piece. I could imagine there was a third - damaged - horse tried to be removed to fix the tsuba... Could this be the case? Was it common to "fight flaws with flaws"? Any idea what could have been carved away (horse, person, easter bunny)?
