Shops Etc. In London And Newcastle Area
AndyMcK posted a topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Greetings, Heading for a bit of R&R in UK next week and thought to ask if locals have good shops etc. to visit for a bit of nihonto viewing? Will be in London and Newcastle. And yes, should have booked the flights a week later, could have checked the auction at Delmar’s... Thank you for any tips! Br, Antti -
I have bought several blades from him, he has never claimed that something is authentic but when asked for more detail will say if he think it is gimei. I have also papered few blades from him to the smiths they were sold as. And have got some bargains as well in that process, for example one Etchu no kami Masatoshi blade. I think he is just selling many of the blades like the consignee as him to sell them as. In short, no complaints here yet. -Antti

Looks like a fox with head up and turned so the ears are actually facing forward. Long tail would also suggest so. Antti

Does This Look Like The Real Deal To You Guys?

Chinese copy, stay clear of it! -Antti -
I would say that the European shows get more excitement because we have so few of them! You are lucky in the US to have several per year and with large attendance, large amount of shopkeepers etc. So do not worry, I would surmise that you still get the similar interest from continental US and abroad as always. -Antti

Just to resurrect the dead and update this blade’s fate: Papered to Minamoto Muneaki by NTHK-NPO in US shinsa, now getting new habaki and shirasaya to stay in. -Antti

Maybe a bit more photos etc? Many 1st generation blades sold for quite a lot cheaper so would appreciate detailed photos. Thank you! -Antti -
Hey all, I was watching an auction and participating as well. There was a quite pristine Efu tachi up for auction, bid on it up to 4000€ but as I was not too sure of the quality etc. left it at that, probably 4,5 would have taken it. Did someone here snatch it up? -Antti https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/61970433_efu-no-tachi

Descriptive Mei Masahide On Aoi
AndyMcK replied to Vermithrax16's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
Maybe more of a meaning lost in translation? Possibly meant that a practitioner of the arts would appreciate the meaning of the descriptive mei? -Antti -
Hey there! As I am not so familiar with the consept of copywright, is the copywright valid if the work is translation from another language? And if the person who did the translation has passed away, how does the legality of copywright pass? To next of kin etc? For me in modern days it is hard to see that anyone actually has a copywright on any work that can be translated from original text. I can understand it i; earlier decades when internet and other useful electronic tools & search engines were not available but now? And this is truly not to in any way meant to diminish the great accomplishment Harry has done, just to answer my questions. Br, Antti

Thank you Piers! Markus was kind and translated them for me, it is nice to see how they have made notes on the sheet and what kind of terms they use, especially when you can study the blades and refer to these notes. Antti

Hello all, I can continue, I was not able to be present there by myself, but got excellent service and help from Chris and Joe. I was happy with the results, 6/7 passing and points ranging from 75 to 77. Link to another thread where the copies of worksheets are is below: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/25514-another-shinsa-translation-help/ Br, Antti

Hello there! Received good news from US shinsa and now waiting to receive the papers on later date. But before that I would be grateful if someone can read the notes on hamon made by shinsa team. Most interested in the shigemasa and gassaku blade’s ones but others appreciated as well! Can provide some photos of the actual blades as well if someone is interested. Thank you very much! -Antti

Nice offer Ray! Have to lock my bank credentials for few weeks until the shinsa is over in US so I wont make any new buys... -Antti
