  1. The nakago looks like that of a naginata. From what I can see from photo's it appears, if not original, not "added on". I'm sure help will arrive shortly Mariusz.
  2. THAT is magnificient. Believe I could be transfixed for hours admiring your tsuba.
  3. Well, paranoid or not there has obviously been an attempt at obliterating something. The location says arsenal stamp.
  4. The mei on my Uda Kunihisa Wakazashi is quite different from your photo Ludolf. I would agree with your assessment.
  5. Perfect Franco, thank you. I did in fact mean menuki-brutal day. I am familiar with "palm swell" as a pistol shooter. I guess I was suprised that the majority of my nihonto appear to be "left handed".
  6. Is there any validity to "right hand" and "left hand" placement of mekugi on the tsuka?
  7. Good grief. I don't suppose he'd even consider a low ball offer of $9,950.
  8. Saw this earlier today. Did contact e-bay, probably to no avail. Thank you D.
  9. This guy is beyond my comprehension. The amount of energy expended in harassment and psychotic ravings must be enormous. I sort of flip from rage to pathetic sympathy for him. I will say e-bay hasn't done a thing to stop this.
  10. Much appreciated Stephen.

    mei/date

Could someone be so kind as to tell me what date is: Heisei 18 Nen 12 Gatsuhi? This is on the nakago of an alleged gendai katana. I am thinking this is actually a shinsaku-to. My thanks in advance.
  12. Mike Yamaguchi is what we refer to as a "cowboy" around here. That is a good thing. He has been honorable in my dealings with him.
  13. Latest development: "samauri-sword" is NOW D.B.A. "arts-of-the-samauri" on e-bay.

    Daisho

    Lovely fittings. Thank you Ray.
  15. I was unaware Japan had a meth problem.
  16. Had a run in with this seller (aka mackstar) on e-bay. Caveat emptor!
  17. Lovely James. Thank you.
  18. Came across a photo of this Nashiji hada (pear skin). The only info I could find was an explanation of "pear skin" (which it does resemble). Has anyone further info re. this type hada?
  19. Sloughs book "Modern Japanese Swordsmiths" lists a (Furukawa) Kanesada. Rates him @ 3.8 million yen (quite high), superior grade gendaito. Born 1837, worked from 1852 thru 1874. Doubtful this is your Kanesada in view of the 1943 date. "Tosho Banzuke" (list of 400+- gunto smiths) lists a Takahashi Kanesada-rated "Ge Saku"and Okada Kanesada-rated "Chuge Saku". Yor blade is most likely showa-to, non traditionally forged (wartime), oil quenched blade. Photo's of blade, nakago/mei are in order.
  20. That makes sense Koichi. I thought he (Yumoto) was implying the water temperature was the same in Feb./Aug. Further he did state this was from the "old calender". Thank you for the clarification. ________________________Todd M.
  21. I was always curious why blades seemed to be invariably dated "a lucky day in Aug,", or "a lucky day in Feb." I was reading my copy of "The Samurai Sword" by John Yumoto and came across this explanation: The Japanese believed the temperature of water was the same in Aug. and Feb.(An explanation wasn't given why). This was the temperature that was desired for the tempering/quenching process-hence "made a lucky day in Aug./Feb."-irregardless of when it was actually forged. Thought I'd pass this on to my fellow neophytes. ________________Todd M.
  22. Thank you Sencho. Thats the mei. As for photo's: I am a bit technologically challenged (seems common with my generation), I shall take the time to learn and use the camera/scanner/computer etc. I would like to show some of my blades for comment. Please bear with me.________________Todd M.
  23. Would anyone have any information on a Terukado (tamba no kami Fujiwara Terukado) above and beyond whats available in Hawley's? Thanks in advance. _________________ Todd M.
