On the Aoi estimation paper it says that this is Yoshimune student of Ono Yoshitoshi.

Thank you Pete for the valuable information.

Very interesting points. I'm going to order Markus Sesko's book now, seems to be a very interesting topic.

Thank you for the info. Would this set be a good candidate for NBTHK shinsa?

Hello Marius, Thank you for the reply. Yes I got this blade from Katana Maeda. I was asking abut its mei and quality because I read that JTK certificate is not reliable, is that true? I also read that the NTHK has lately issued Kantei to sword which the NBTHK has rejected due to hagire and other issues. Currently I don't have better pictures since the wakizashi is still in Japan.

Hello Steve, I actually never touched the blade with bare hands. I always use a Fukusa when viewing it. But I noticed that when looking head on towards the edge, I can see some light reflection on the edge, which I understand as not being as sharp as it could be.

Thank you Mr. Doffin for your reply. I am investing also in books and have been reading them. There is still a lot for me to learn though, and I always appreciate input from experts like yourself. Currently I have John Tirado make me a habaki and shirasaya for this sword.

Hello, I recently purchased this Tanto, and would like some feedback/opinion from the more experienced forum members about this Tanto. Is the mei authentic or gimei, what is the age and quality of this piece? It has JTK brown certificate from April 2015 And a NTHK certificate also from 2015 claiming it to be 2nd generation Kanenaga from tenbun era. Thanks.

Hello, I would appreciate some feedback on this set, which I got from Aoi in Japan. It has NBTHK hozon papers and is signed Yoshimune. Any info on the maker would be greatly appreciated. Would this be considered a good pice? Thanks.

Came accross these menuki, signed Yasuchika and with kao. Would the more experienced forum members please comment on this set? Is it authentic or gimei? And what is its aproximate age? It has NTK papers, but I read that they are not accepted by most. Thanks.

Hello, Could some of the more experienced collectors please give me their opinions on this tsuba? Is the mei authentic? I think it says Masatsugu of bushuju And dated 1748. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm relatively new at collecting Nihonto. Recently I bought this Katana from a dealer in Canada. I would appreciate some opinions from the more experienced collectors on this forum about this katana. Any feedback on quality, state of polish.... Also I was wondering about the edge, it's not really sharp. Is that something I should address by sending the blade to be polished? The info I have from the nakago is: Mei Minamoto Yoshitsugu Date September 1860 It also has the name of the samurai who commissioned the sword and some additional points which I couldn't translate. It has an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon certificate from 1992. My understanding is that the NBTHK is much more stringent in giving Tokubetsu Hozon certificates now. Does that have any impact on older certificates like mine? Are they less valuable? Thank you all in advance.

Hello, I was looking at a katana which is signed and dated. Could anyone please help me with analyzing if this is an authentic signature or a gimei. Also I couldn't find to much on this smith. Thank you. Signature: Osyu-koku Sendai-jyu Yamashiro no kami Fujiwara Genjirou Kunikane Thank you. Max.

I also wonder on the date side what the kanji after no (2) and before nen means? Max
-
So it's probably a total fake?
-
Thank you for the reply. I thought the date was 1597. Keicho 2 But even then, Kunisada would have been only 7-8 years old. Max B.

Hello, I'm new to the forum, and need some advice and guidance on a wakizashi I'm interested in. The nakago is signed "Fujiwara Kunisada saku" I think. It's dated "Keicho 2 .....? Year 8month a lucky day" What is the opinion of the experts in this forum on the mei and the overall blade? Thank you very much.
