Hello, I would like to get some feedback about using David Hofhine for sword polishing. Anybody here with experience using him? Thank you all.

Kozuka signed Tokiyoshi and kao. I like the calm atmosphere on this piece. I especially like the moon in the upper left corner inlaid in silver. This kozuka has NBTHK hozon and NTHK kanteisho papers, but it's currently going through NBTHK shinsa for Tokubetsu hozon.

My best set of menuki. Gold, signed Yoshioka inaba no suke. Probably 6th or 7th generation. NBTHK Tokubetsu hozon papers.

Two of my favorite Fuchi & Kashira sets. First set (Crane motive) is signed Sakai Yoshitsugu and has NBTHK Tokubetsu hozon papers. The second set is signed Yoshimune. And has IMHO very good Nanako. This set also has NBTHK Tokubetsu hozon and NTHK kanteisho papers.

Another mokume tsuba. Signed Bushu ju Masatsugu, and dated 1748. This tsuba also has NBTHK Tokubetsu hozon and NTHK kanteisho papers.

Daisho tsuba set. Mokume forged from tamahagane. Signed Sankei and Kao. This set has NBTHK Tokubetsu hozon and NTHK kanteisho papers.

Here some pictures of the fittings I found and added to my collection this year. All are signed and papered. What do you guys think of this assortment? My theme here is nature and serenity.

But concerning the price I think that close to $5000 is way to high for this sword. Do you agree?

Thank you Brian for the clarification. I thought that I read somewhere that by 1943 tamahagane production was minimal, and that only few top smiths received any?

Update! Finally received the Seto Yoshihiro Tanto today. I must say that this blade is gorgeous, in my opinion. Here are some pictures I just took.

Hello, I was wondering if anybody has any information about Yanagawa Naotaka. All I know is that he was from a branch family of Yanagawa.

Which 28 smiths are featured in this book?
-
Thank you Santos, My understanding is that he adds the name Seto on katana length swords, but due to the shortness of Tanto he only writes the name Yoshihiro.

Hello Joe, Did you see this Kasama katana on Aoi art? http://www.aoijapan.com/katana-kasama-ikkansai-shigetsugu-saku

Hello Santos, Do you have any pictures of your Yoshihiro Katana? When was it made?
-
As soon as I receive the Tanto, I will take some pictures and post them here.

Joe, thank you very much for your input. I appreciate and value it very much, especially since you are the expert on Gendaito / Shinsakuto.

No, my family lives in Kyoto. They send it to him via express mail. But they spoke to him over the phone several times. They told me that he is a very nice guy, and that he is still currently making swords.

Probably late 18th, or early 19th century.

You are right, I won't have tsunokuchi installed. The only thing that bugs me a little is the oil stain on the back.

Just received this picture from my family in Japan. Mr. Seto Yoshihiro authenticated the Tanto and wrote a sayagaki for it. Very fast service on his part! Looking forward to seeing the blade in person now.
