Hello Everyone, It has been a while I got back into this forum. I need help to translate the date since it is hard to read. Thanks in advance, Quang Mei: Oite ? Naga Nobu saku Date: have no clue
-
Hi Bill, Welcome to the Nihonto Message Board. There are many people who have great knowledge in this field. So you will be helped along the way you started to collect Japanese sword. Quang
-
Well, the most common motion is that most people think Japanese sword (nihonto) worth more than thousand of thousand of dollars. Here is the case, where not all Nihonto are created equal in value....
-
It seems like they can reproduce art like the original painting. One day, they can reproduce Nihonto and gimei signature like the original work of Nihonto........... We will be flushed Nihonto all over on Ebay.....and certificate Paper...LOL
-
Hi Clay, The top mei is "To^ to Ju Nin" and the bottom is "Ikkansai Kuni Mori Kin Saku". The smith real name is Miyaguchi Shigeru and his art name is "Yasuhiro" when he is still a Yasukuni smith. Outside work, he signed as Kuni Mori. I hope that help. He is reference in John slough's book page 182.

Mr. Koichi Moriyama, As usual your translation is excellence. I believe the smith is "Kawachi (no) Kami Fujiwara Jumyo saku". The rest of the surrender tag is beyond my ability to read. Thank you for so much to for your help. Thanks again, Quang Doan

Hi All, Someone asked me to help on this surrender tag. I can not read all of them. The middle line of the first picture is "X X kami Fujiware Jumyo". I am very appreciated for anyone help on this in advance.

eugene walton, The sword look mumei to me...the signature is added on later....Someone thought it could sell better if there is a mei go on the tang. He/she could add the signature on the tang.. That is my opinion. Quang

Bungo, Like the old saying goes...."one man's junk is an other man's treasure"...
-
Mark, So I guess the standard of passing NTHK paper is getting more stricter than before or there are still so many gimei left in the states.
-
I wish I could make it to the show but other works tied up. Can anyone who attended the Chicago show give us a update? I heard Milt sold out all his junks...Ops...I mean tsuba..... How is the Shinsa? more pink papers than white....as usual! Quang

Nihontoto, The second picture: could be translated as "Kimura Toshiharu". Maybe "Nobody" could translate the first two since he is very good at reading kanji. I have been wrong twice before...

Hi Milt, You can wait few more generations or three more decades....then submit your "gimei Muramasa", it will eventually papered or might go higher to Juyo status....LOL -
Nobody, Thank you for correcting my mistake. I alway thought it was "Ichimonju" and not "Ichimonji".

Tampa Show Feb. 9-11

Curran, The other solution is "Please ask the seller permission before handle the sword" sign at the table. I saw few of on some dealers table. Of course, under the table is not a great idea since buyers are looking for what they like or collect. -

Curran, Well, It is the way it conducts business. As you see, the last day, dealers walk around other tables and trade their stuffs with less cash put in or even trade. This year was slow for Nihonto in Tampa. I guess it will be better in Chicago with alot of buyers. I might make it to Chicago this time. Milt, You are getting more softer....I guess the Kid in London must spend a fortune of your wallet....  So all your Tsubas must go at any price.... -

Curran, "but many good swords were kept under the tables and you had to know to ask for them" ..... These swords are for special buyer with serious of cash or regular buyers have been on the show every years that the dealers recognized. Of course, the buying or selling already took place on Thursday night in the hotel room with serious of drinking or poker game among the dealers. Again, you must be in the Gentle member club....... -
"For sword dude like you, make offers on swords that get pinkied at shinsa shows. Lot's of people do that and come out ahead" LOL....it is like taking the candy from a kid without they are crying......at it.... I like that idea ......by taking away their sadness of their Juyo candidate treasury after the Shinsa pinked them......or Muramasa.....sword..... for undervalue bargain.......... I will try that on your first pink sword...in Chicago this year....
-
Bungo, Sure...I am a sword dude..........I brought some money and ready to spend but I did not see many items that can pull my money out of my pocket yet. The price tag is high on some swords and even on Sunday sell off (Everything must go) did not pick up the momentum either. So I left the show with empty hand and with cash ....   It seems this year some dealers won't let go many of their items last minute. I spoke with a buyer and he complain the price is still high even on the last day. Oh...Well...More stuffs must be gone on Chicago show.....
-
Bungo, You missed the Tampa show. Tsuba was flying off the seller tables like "Hotcake" at McDonald on Saturday morning. Nihonto is selling fast like Mercedes at the Premium price....LOL.. I saw a lot of dealers packing up their most of swords and go home...
-
Hello Blucool, The signature translated as "Kanemoto". I believe this smith is in Mino school.
