Hi Bruce I have one blade made by Nagamitsu and yes it is the same that you talk about but the pictures are in better luminosity and quality now........i think its a mistake in the number the corect number is 1867......look at this conversation we have earlier last year!!! No worries😉

Happy easter !!! Its a pleasure for my eyes to see all that superb Gendaitos you all have!!! Thats give me the idea to post some pics of my humble Rinji Seishiki Nagamitsu Cant tell so much about Nagamitsu and never see a picture of him but like Neil said previously Nagamitsu was a sword maker for the Osaka army arsenal.....also i think that the kanji "Naga" have mostly 2 stroke but sometime 3 stroke and some said that with all that Nagamitsu blades found over the years Nagamitsu probably have some students who made and sign Nagamitsu and maybe this explain why some variation in the kanji "Naga"....defenitively Nagamitsu is a swordsmith that we dont know alot about and i hope that in the futur we will discover more about him.....

Its look like its been freshly polished!! Really nice blade Merry Christmas
-
I supose its an old blade because you have 2 holes for the bambo wood lock so we can presume that the blade where mounted 2 times with different handles during time I suggest you to go see somebody that can evaluate properly the sword My 2 cents Eric.

Hi George I know the thread is little bit old but To answer your #1 question.... My Rinji Nagamitsu nagasa is 27in 5/32.....i have a longer one than Bruce but your still the longer🤣 I have the common black menuki On the handle and blade is a very strait suguha hamon Merry Christmas to you all Eric

Woah Bruce big work on that chart!! Good info collected thru the time! Thanks for sharing this!!! I notice a little error in the chart ..... My Nagamitsu type 3 serial number Is 1867 not 1861 When i bought the Nagamitsu,i ask the seller if he have some info about the blade....he told me that he bought it a couple years ago from a guy in the USA, and told me a war time storie about a GI's unit that found a lot of around 200 brand new type 3 gunto that have been never delivered to soldier, the GI's split the lot between them and bring them back home, and thats why we can find a lot of Nagamitsu blade in superb condition!!! They never see the battlefield ! Have you ever ear this storie before? Regards Eric -

Its the Nagamitsu that i was looking for long time ago... i really love the type 3 gunto and this one is in well good condition!! All is original no part missing almost brand new! I was supose to buy it for christmas some years ago but sometime things happen in life that can change your plan! Now im happy to share with you some pictures but i just have a cell phone for the pics Regards Eric. -

hi all i was on eBay to take a look on some gunto for sale and i saw this nagamitstu signed blade! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Y122-Japanese-WWll-Army-officers-sword-in-mountings-Gendaito-Nagamitsu-/352069208407?hash=item51f8f5c957:g:ivIAAOSw-K9ZJ4Io im not a true connoisseur in Nihonto or Gendaito but for me that blade look to be true Gendaito but im not sure this is a real nagamitsu blade! the mei look to be fresh made and on the mei side we dont see any rust and its look too clean ....on the other side its rusted... also this signature are quite rare for a Nagamitsu gendaito and aperently nagamitsu blade are rarely dated whats you think about that? regards Eric P.

hi Chris thanks for your opinion!! from my neophyte view i was thinking...... the blade was special order from a ww2 soldiers who order a blade traditionnaly made thats can not be true?? notes that there is no family stamp or anything that identifies this Gunto to any family and i was thinking the tsuka are (from my neophyte view) quality made whit rayskin for a late war built...so more chance to be quality gunto..... after a view on the website http://ohmura-study.net/900.html i think im wrong and rayskin tsuka are common use in type 3 gunto i will remove this wrong label regards Eric P. -

hi Stu thank you for showing me the right book to buy, on the market we have a lot of books and dont know which on to buy but now i know!!! your opinion is welcome i dont want to polish all the blade just a window polish to take a look.....and why i will do this? because on the scabbard i have this sticker telling the sword was traditionnal made ...probably a false information to fool the buyer but to be sure its not a traditionnal blade i need to check this before sell the blade! after all should we not judge each blade by their own merit? i do not deceive myself, i know the chances are slim to have a traditional made blade also i found another good website where different picture showing different hamon, hada type very good information and pictures for a neophyte like me ! http://www.shibuiswords.com/ http://www.shibuiswords.com/learningkantei.htm http://www.shibuiswords.com/kanteipics.htm regards Eric P. -
