Hi David nice to hear from you,I'm new to all this. If I'd known it had to be smoked I could have gotten a lot from light brown to black colour from the roof of my last job,it was a really old place with a thatched roof there was lots of it. Sadly the place we are finishing now was not quite so old but from Tuesday we are starting a new place,as soon as I come across any I will mail you.

Thanks Ed. As I said I spoke to Fred yesterday by way of mail and he never suggested it was a typo. He even sent me a full copy of his write up. As far as I'm concerned I will continue to search around and try 1 or 2 other thing Fred suggested too. I've seen numerous references to the use of kami or 守 for other smiths but only Fred's ref for the guy I'm looking for. It's no problem so thanks for all the input.

Than you Thomas I've already made contact with Fred and he suggest that his article is correct and that only the 1st gen may have used that title. He also suggested some other things to do.

John excellent as always thank you. Nice info, here's my take:- This is a copy paste by By Fred Weissberg 1/05 Higo Daijo Sadakuni was from Echizen Province. He worked around the beginning of the Shinto Era, around Keicho (1596) and Kanei (1624). There are various stories about the lineage of this smith. Some attribute him to being the younger brother of Higo (no) Kuni Dotanuki Masakuni. And others say he was the younger brother of the first generation Yasutsugu. Â Sadakuni received the title of Higo (no) Kami the same as the first generation Yasutsugu. Many of his remaining works are tanto and hira zukuri wakizashi. He is rated as being equal to Yasutsugu and is most famous for his fine carving of horimono. Interesting first paragraph but not what I'd like to draw your attention to, the second paragraph states that Sadakuni received the title of higo no kami the same as 1st generation yasutsugu. That would suggest to me he also used that title?

I can find literature on " kami " but no photos. I don't wish to offend anyone but who would be among the most knowledgable people on the board,in this field?

I think I'm on the correct page but forgive if I'm not. Ok from my other post on higo kami fujiwara yasutsugu I had little or no new information come up and no clear mei photo. So my question is this:- Are higo kami fujiwara yasutsugu and higo daijo fujiwara yasutsugu the same man? The same man who was once echizen no kuni juu shimosaka? I believe they are all the same man but I'm looking for confirmation.

Hi Stephen thanks for your post. The first photo is a list of yasutsugu smiths generations not actual mei and the stuff on eBay I also saw nidai is a different person and it's only a wakizashi I'd like to see the style and mei. The one that was echizen shimosaka it couldn't be read but thank you very much for your post I really appreciate the time you put in.

As the man says doctor,phd etc however it can also mean fair or exhibition depending on whether its used alone or with other kanji.

No problem. I'm just trying to improve my language ability at the minute and to be honest most of the buildings we take down are rotten or very damp but we always save what we can,there is a lot of recycling here.

Your photos are what I do,and what you say is about the size of it. Sometimes in the way,sometimes to make new and sometimes dangerous but almost always a little sad. I'm a daiku or carpenter but my Japanese is still improving so it was a case of taking a construction position to get to work and improve normal conversation,the thought of teaching is awful and the wife is Japanese.

First we would need to ensure the owner or ex owner had no family,if they did it goes to them. If not then I'd need to ask the contractor if they wanted it,if not Then if my boss never wanted it I'd need to ask could I have it and I'd need paper from him saying so. Then it's the police to inform them then they check with the boss then they keep it for 3 to 6 months to see if anyone claims it. If after that no one came,I need to convince them why I'd like it,if they are ok with that I fill in paperwork and get invited to the next nihonto appraisal meeting to be told genuine or not. If the police say no,probably one of them would keep it or it would be put in a box somewhere. Seems like a lot of work and time and it would be sad if they said no. Small things are ok,something like like that is different altogether I think.

Alas Mariusz no masamune and it would make no difference if i did,its difficult for normal people to keep things like that here.
