  1. Hello and good day. Sorry for the interruption. I found you here while searching the Internet. And I think we can possibly help. I don't want an expert opinion. Just a dating or confirmation of the date of my sword. Someone else has claimed that the sword is not or cannot be from 1631. He claims it is from 1747. He also said that many Japanese cannot read it properly and that a dot or small angled line can change everything. He also deals in Japanese blades and has experience. I already have the name and so on and he confirmed it to me. Hizen no Kuni ju Musashi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro 肥前国住武蔵大掾藤原忠広. but two Japanese friends of mine also say it says 1631 Blade is dated Kanei 8th year 2nd month an auspicious day
    寛永八年二月吉日.
Kanei 8th year is 1631. Unfortunately I'm having doubts and don't know what to do. It would be great if you could take a look at the dates. Thank you in advance for your effort, ArminIMG_2192.thumb.jpeg.ee1c219f8a643d73308d98078cd2b240.jpeg

Sadly your friend is wrong. Perhaps he means 寛延 Kanen 1, which is 1748(?).

Anyway yours says 寛永 八年, which is Kanei 8, 1631.

Thank you very much for the answer. Yes, I had almost thought so. My Japan friends had read it that way too. Thank you for the information.
