  1. Look forward to Barry's expertise in this matter! Just know, that my interest exceeds my knowledge, when it come to Nihonto.... Harvey G.
  2. Hi, I was wondering if there is anyone close to me (Ontario, Canada), where I could take a Katana, to get an honest and knowledgeable opinion? Thanks. Harvey G.
  3. Just received Katana tonight! Here is what I hope is a clearer pic of Mei. Harvey G.
  4. I found this example, at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, which is almost the exact same as mine. Just a matter of whether mine is authentic, or a copy of this one. Note: Mine is round, while this one is a rounded rectangle. Harvey G. Tsuba with design of silkworms Japanese, Edo period, early to mid-19th century By Shimizu Shigenaga, Japanese School Jingo School, Japanese
  5. David Stiles, thank you very much for your input, and expertise! I look forward to sending you more detailed photos, when I can (1-2 weeks). Harvey G.
  6. Thanks for any/all info! I have just purchased this sword, and will post some detailed pics, in about a week or so. This is the only other pic that I have, that shows the tsuba well. If the mei on the nakago is genuine, then that would put the blade somewhere in the late 16th to early 17th century. It's going to be a long wait, until the next USA shinsa! Harvey G. P.S. I was told buy the seller, that the saya is not original, in case anyone noticed.
  7. This Tsuba came off a katana (which I have previously posted about), that has a Mei (gimei?) which seems to read "Mutsu no Kami Daido". Just wondering if this tsuba would support that or not? Harvey G.
  8. Just received the Katana tonight! Here are what I hope are some better pics. (I believe this Tsuba to be quite old, but would love to get any insight, as to the age or smith, that it might be attributed to?! Thanks!) Harvey G.
  9. Thanks to the expertise in the Mei Translation section, the mei on this nohinto seems read "Mutsu no Kami Daido". Now the million dollar question becomes, does this sword match the mei? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Harvey G.
  10. Wow.....you guys are good! The seller of this sword said he had someone look at it, and they attributed the sword to Mutsu no Kami Daido. I was really hoping for an unbiased confirmation of this translation, and it looks like you guys may have done just that! Thank you so much. Any other opinions or comments about this smith, of course, would be welcome. Harvey G.
  11. Hi, I just acquired this Katana, which is supposed to be in the 400-500 year old range. Would greatly appreciate help with Mei translation! Hoping the sword will be worthy enough to bring to the next Shinsa....as I just missed the last one. Thanks in advance! Harvey G. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/z/h-sAAOxyVLNTAxQC/$_57.JPG
