  1. I guess people in the US will be more than able to help you identifying it and distinguishing if it is worth restoring (polishing). My advice would be, only have it polished in Japan by certified polishers. If you need help finding one let me know. I live in Japan and facilitate polishing and certificates from the Japanese association for the preservation of Japanese art swords (NBTHK). Cheers and don't cut yourself Paul
  2. Ah nice, I was too late on the Kurogane no hana ;)
  3. Really a sad story, but I would also assume it will still arrive, just with very heavy delay. I had so much bad experience with DHL, I wonder, did you get any answer from them by phone? Also I would expect the package to arrive at UK customs and you would receive a letter from them requesting an invoice etc. according to my experience. Well keeping thumbs pressed. Let us know when it arrives!
  4. Here some pictures of a real one for study. Her
  5. Of course Aoi is famous but there is no real space and lighting in the shop and it is a bit of a mess. You will have to know which swords you want to see beforehand, because in the shop you won't find them :). If you want to have a big store with good lighting and many swords exhibited go to Token Matsumoto near Nishi Kasai station on Tozai line. The owner speaks perfect english and is quite friendly and you can easily select swords you want to take a look at from the showcases. Also prices are quite reasonable. https://www.touken-matsumoto.jp/en
  6. If you need help with import and export from India to Japan let me know. I have some contacts in the Indian embassy here in Tokyo.
  7. Do you have a picture of the Mei?
  8. Perfect
  9. Looks very nice, do you want to get it certified?
  10. If this piece was really made by Nara Toshiharu it would be worth a fortune as Toshiharu was the second master of the Nara school and is said to be one of the best masters of the school, so beware. Would be advisable to ask for papers.
  11. Edo Juu Nara Toshiharu saku ’Made by Nara Toshiharu from Edo' The rest describes the piece but a bit hard to translate all of it. What is inside?
  12. I do not think it is trickery, they say in the description that the Sayagaki has nothing to do with the blade and it is from edo period... What do I miss?
  13. Yes, quite good quality. It was papered to Kaga Goto
  14. I would like to share some items from the last treasure hunt at the Kyoto Antique Fair in June. There was an abundance of items in all price ranges, even Juyo items were shown.
  15. Hello Everyone, Join me online at the Kyoto Antique Fair which will be held from 24th to 25th June! New York = 9 pm Thursday 23rd (dealers preview 9 pm Wednesday 22nd) Berlin = 3 am Friday 24th (dealers preview 3 am Thursday 23rd) I will try to get into the dealers preview on 23rd so posting might start early via the following Telegram group. https://t.me/+1JKJ01sQGZcyMWI1 For all of you who had trouble joining telegram, I have created a Facebook group and will try to post there as well. Might be a bit delayed vs. Telegram though which still is the best technical solution for this purpose. https://www.facebook.com/groups/434768394971014/ If you wanna contact me during the fair, telegram would be the best, but Facebook messenger also works. If none of those work, iMessage is a valid alternative. Contact me for details. I hope to see many of you there. Happy hunting! Paul
  16. Hello Everyone, Join me on another treasure hunt at the heiwajima antique fair tomorrow! We will start from around 10 am Japanese time. (New York - 9 pm, Berlin - 3 am) For all of you in Europe, the event should be rather large so I will be there quite a while and you can still join in later while having your morning coffee. I will take photos of all items related to the Japanese sword, which I am allowed to take pictures of and post it on the telegram channel: https://t.me/+1JKJ01sQGZcyMWI1 For all of you who do not use telegram, I will try to post to the following facebook group as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/434768394971014 Posts on Facebook might be delayed due to my lack of multitasking skills. I hope we will find some treasures! See you soon Paul
  17. Hi Thomas, I do understand the problem well. Of course you are not the only one having it. Of course it is difficult to stay up late. I guess that is also the reason why most treasures went to the US till now. What I do propose to our European hunters is just to get up early on the next morning instead like 6 am. That way you can browse through the pictures I already posted while I might be at the market still. However, I would like to ask the European hunters to give me a hint that they will be joining later, meaning please text me a day earlier and let me know that you will be joining from the afternoon. I can have lunch somewhere close and go back to the market afterwards in case you want to get any of the items. I hope this helps you and am looking forward to seeing you at the next market. Paul P.S. currently shipping by Airmail from Japan to Europe has been ceased. The only way is by ship, which means around 3 months to arrive. In case you want it earlier FedEx or DHL would be around 150 to 180 $.
