Hi, The attached pictures are of a Fuchi & Kashira that I had collected some time ago, and I would humbly request help with the identification of the school/ Craftsman if possible. What I do know is that is a depiction of the Demon Quiller-Shoki. It appears to my novice eyes to be good craftmanship with a signature...Real/ Fake ...not sure. Thank you in advance Jason

Gentlemen, Thank you, for your patience and understanding of the less desirable pictures. In truth, I will capture many lessons learned within this post and hopefully apply them for my next post. I have attempted to take additional pictures from my I-pad of better angles of the tusba. Thank you, Jason

NMB members, I woundering if anyone can provide some information about the Tusba I have included within this post. I purchased it about a year ago, because I found it to be Aesthetically pleasing and with the long term goal of mounting it one day. The information I am seeking is time period, school and style..etc Thank you in advance. Jason Edit: Better pictures attached

Stephen, I have worked with David in the past on a Tsuka project, and I can tell you that his craftsmanship is outstanding. If I remember correctly he is a school teacher and his ability to work on projects is based on working around his teaching schedule. Maybe with the holidays in the near future he might be able to catch up on some projects. If you need his contact info PM me. S/F Jason

Tadayoshi Signature- Assistance In Research
Jason Williams replied to Jason Williams's topic in Nihonto
Thanks for the information guys. Steve, also thank you for the heads up on the Tadayoshi 2nd gen. I have been watching that one as well(drooling) I think it went for about 701,000 yen last night, but right now the extra cash just wasn't available. Hopefully, a member was able to get it and will be able to share what he has learned. Jason -
Request assistance in research I have been researching a Wakizashi on Art Aoi and am having a hard time matching the Tadayoshi 4th signature on the blade to my (Connoisseurs) reference books/ Internet. Art Aoi is very respected, so I am missing something. Based on my research I know a smith can change signatures over time but I am unsure if this is the case. http://www.aoijapan.com/wakizashi-oumi-daijyo-fujiwara-tadayoshi-4th-generation Thank you Jason

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this piece of art Jean and members. When seasoned collectors have an informed discussion about an item such as this breathtaking sword it provides a good leaning opportunity for the novice collector. I look forward to one day purchasing an item of this caliber to study first hand. Jason

Request some information on a TSUBA I have attached to this post. It came with the Nihonto I purchased last year and I was wondering if anyone has seen one like this in the past? I don't have any concerns about it just interested in some information. I have been told it was from the Edo period but that is the extent of the information. I am not sure what the pattern is supposed to represent. Thank you, Jason

Board members, The Seppa on my Nihonto has some chips on the outer surface. The Nihonto is from Edo period, so I guess it is too be expected. I have a couple of questions if someone can help me understand the process. I. Where can I purchase Seppa to replace the old ones? II. What is the process to matching the original Seppa to the replacement Seppa? Thank you, Jason

Board members, I have a question about some of the Nihonto displays I have seen in private collections and museums. Basically it is Nihonto in a rack with a Japanese hanging scroll behind it. On the hanging scroll it has various calligraphy (not the same). I am not sure what the significance of this is, but I known it is done with purpose. Can anyone explain what significance of the scroll is and how to properly replicate? Thank you, Jason

No problem, his name is David McDonald. I found him through this message board and I agree with your assessment. We were both on the fence about it and agree we would reach out to the message board about the topic. Jason

Recently I have purchased a nice late Edo katana with what appears to be the original mountings. I noticed that the Ito wrap looked like it was worn from the years of use, so I sent the Tsuka to an expert to have it re-wrapped with new Japanese silk. The expert evaluated the Tsuka and said that it could possibly de-value the katana, because it appeared that the wrap was the original from the 1800's. He let me know that it is a tough call to have it re-wrapped. Wanted to get the members thoughts on this? Thank you Jason
