Hi Patrick,
some of the best deals i got here on NMB. Great pieces and great people to buy from! Also some FB-Groups are getting quite interesting lately.

Hello,
i recently bought a new tsuba, that came with an old box. The outside just mentions the mei of the tsuba "Kishu ju Sadanaga" if i am not mistaken. On the inside of the lid is quite a long text, which i am not able to translate.
It would be awesome if others could help me with a rough translation. Thanks in advance !

Hi Robin,
looks like aoi leaves to me too. Nice theme and the execution looks quite good.
I once heard a theory, that tsuba signed Kunihiro were forged as blankets and a different artist added sukashi or inlays later to finish it. Whether it was a workshop or if there was a connection to the sword smiths, i do not know.

Sure looks like Daikokuten (and a rat?). Both symbols of good luck and wealth.

... or the Japanese version of the pied piper of Hameln :D
regards,
Definitely magnetic and the inserted part is a seperated piece. Patinated copper not shakudo would be my guess.
I thought more of a modern made piece and not a cast copy.
That tsuba is a great example and i was not aware that the NBTHK ever used landscapes on a paper. Maybe i send my tsuba in to see what they make of it. Looked Mt. Haguro up. Belongs to the same group of mountains as Mt. Gassan (like the school of swordmaking).
Wow, quite a lot of info in short period of time! Thank you and i will surely need some time to understand all the connections you made.
