  1. Way to go Bruce! Looks like a nice one.
  2. Awesome news Joe! Glad to hear it!
  3. Very cool news Bruce. I'm glad to hear of the clarification on the subject!
  4. Looks great Joel! I really like it. Well done!
  5. Very impressive! You are quite talented!
  6. This one on Aoi seems to be on the short side. It seems like most of the mantetsu that I've seen have a nagasa of 66.68cm, while this one is 62.3cm.
  7. Looks great Chris. Congratulations!
  8. Thanks Hamfish. Your reasoning makes sense to me. Cheers!
  9. Thanks Hamfish. I was hoping you could tell me what indicates that a tassel is for a type 32? Looking in Dawson's, I saw pictures of later model type 95s with the leather tassel without the buckle. I thought that was what I had. Any pointer you could give me on how to distinguish the two would be greatly appreciated!
  10. I'm not able to afford the sword myself at this time, so I've passed along all of the relevant info to a NMB member here who is interested in purchasing it. I'm sure that very soon the sword will be in good hands and hopefully that person will post more about it at that time.
  11. While at an antique mall today I ran across a North China Railway Company sword!!! This appears to be the very sword listed in Dawson's on page 336 in plate 26-13. My eyes about fell out of my head! I was only able to take a few quick pics, none of the blade unfortunately. The blade was oil quenched, about 27" with sanbonsugi hamon, I believe. It was in good condition. They are asking $5500 for the sword, which seams a little on the high side to me. What does everyone else think?
  12. While browsing at an antique shop today, I ran across these six tassels. I was able to get them all at a really good price. My phone pics aren't the best, but they are three company grade tassels, one navy or late war tassel and two leather nco tassels. It's always nice when you find something you weren't expecting.
  13. My copy arrived yesterday Joe. Thanks for making this available to all of us!
  14. My star-stamped Kanehide has a Na stamp right above the date.
  15. My Kanehide which is dated Dec. '43 has celluloid samegawa on it. I've also seen on another Kanehide that I believe was dated Oct '44. My thought was that whichever company was mounting Kanehide's blades was using it.
  16. I'm lucky enough to live 15 minutes from him. Every now and then he invites me over to talk swords and see what he's working on. It is always a pleasure.
  17. I think Ed is right. When you look at the picture, you see that the "nodes" are squarish and not round.
  18. It certainly turned out great Bruce! Well done!
  19. Looks great!
  20. That is incredible! That would be a one sword collection.
  21. Joe - I can't wait to see the after pictures. They should be great. I'm also glad you got that Shigetsugu from Nihontocraft, so I can now stop lusting after it!
  22. I'm backer #6! Can't wait to see the book and the database!
  23. I'd been in for a hardcover.
  24. Wow! That is a beautiful looking blade Joe!
