  1. And Mr.B says: No it wasn`t bend back. The only way to restore a Kissaki is to accept that some material will be lost. That does mean that the damaged part was polished "off" and the the whole curvature of the Kissaki (Ha) was reshaped! Everything else is B-$hit! But still there is 5-8mm material left after this to reshape the Kissaki again. Anyhow, as stated before, the blade needs a polish. So it`s an easy task for a polisher to do the minor repair. It`s ot more, The whole story about is that I don`t like to get named a lier and cheater! So this was my last statement to this. Everything is said and sorted out. End of story. I am looking forward to my new sword and saw today it arrived at customs. Yippee!
  2. Right! After I received it from Mike this is what I got: And here are the pics I sended the morning before Charles agreed to buy it: In one thing I have to correct Mike a bit. One end of the saya was open and the paint was partially away. Zhis may look like it was cutted but again I didn`t. I just splitted the saya to see if there is a repair possible to make it a better fit.
  3. It was a very open discussion in advance with Charles. He was informed that the blade is in a condition that needs a polish and he was informed that the saya wasn`t ever made for this sword. It seems that one of the previous owners just used this saya because it was available somewhere in a corner. I tried to do something with the saya, splitted it to see if there is a chance to correct it but stopped this immediately because I saw that the curvature plus the height wasn`t ever done for this sword. So I wrapped the complete blade in transparent kitchen foil to prevent it to get surface scratches, then placed it in the saya, pressed everything together and taped it outside. So from my point of view it was impossible that something moves. The handle wasn`t installed because together with this there simply wasn`t enough space in the cardbox. In total there where around 10cm of air to both ends. These ends where filled with foam rubber and the whole blade incl. the saya was wrapped in bubble foil. The package was so tight with filling material that any move was impossible! The foam rubber was around 5cm of thickness. Imagine yourself which power is needed to get a blade to move: 1. out of the taped saya 2. through the foam rubber It must have been a massive drop! Or The customs did open it and something went wrong there or at least something else..... I swear that the blade was 100% intact before packaging, you can see this easily on the pictures. I think it is more that Charles is not satisfied with the complete condition oft the sword, nor I was, and thats more or less why he claims so hard. But thats live, it was communicated that it is a project and thats all. So anyhow, because he stated he will get a polish for it, so now it is "just" the tip on top. Get it polished and feel happy. This sword is a eternal wayfarer and I am sure it will never find a home........ P.S. Still I am waiting for an excuse! I don`t like it to get the light of a criminal!
  4. Uhhmmm, what do you expect how a bended tip will look like else???
  5. Charles, please do us all a favour. There are minimum 5 people here in germany, 1 NBTHK Member and one other collector, my wife and two friends who will state that the sword was OK. If u are sure it was damaged, then prove it. Otherwise keep quite and claim the forwarder. The two below pictures show that it was repaired. Otherwise wich explanation do you have for the below pictures? Done by miracle, autocratical or what? I will stop now to communication with you as long you reject your bashing and you will give an official apoligize for this! Proof that you did not destroy it yourself. I can show at least the pictures that it was repaired. Which evidence do you have? Explain which interest I should have to sell you crap and to stay official here in the board beeing aware that my reputation will be destroyed? and that for only ~ US $800,--?? It needs more money to do this! But as I said thats not my style at all! Just for your record: I got a receipt from the customs and have to pay US$ 320,-- from the shipping of the previous owner. That reduce my "profit on this sword to US$ 500,--! I already gave it away as a present! Your statements are a brashness! Andreas
  6. OK guys, it gets nasty now. I have nothing to hide so here is an update. After all, Charles thinks that I try to hijack him and he thinks that I sended the sword already damaged to him! I am not that type of guy. It is for everybody visible here in this board that the sword was damaged when I received it the first time from Mike Yeon. It arrived like this After that I polished the Kissake and it loked like this: There is no picture from the moment I did in in the parcel..... (I doubt someone is doing this anyway) This is how I sended it to Charles. The reason for my sale was that I was not satisfied with the total quality of the sword. It did not match my needs. It was judged by a polisher in advance here in germany http://www.japanschwerter.de (NBTHK Member) and he said that he never saw a that good polish from someone that did not had training before until he had seen my work. He did`n even recognize that the Kissaki was bended and repaired until I told him. So, in the above post Charles mentioned that the sword sticks 1 cm out of the saya! The saya is 8 cm longer than the sword! When I sended the sword away, the sword was not looking out of the saya at all! With all respect to Charles I have to say that I am irritated to imply me to cheat him and that I have sended the sword already damaged. I mean, it is really sad and I really tried to pack everything as much good as possible but at least what can I do against a forwarder that drops the parcel that much hard that the sword went through something? It is always a risk that something gets damaged in transport. Basically thats all what happened! Charles is saying that there is no hole somewhere visible that underscores that the sword went through the inner package and thats why he thinks I cheat him. There wasn`t even some cardbox around the sword where he can see this. It was just the saya and bubble foil and styrofoam. So where the hell do you expect to see a punch through?? Sorry guys, thats word against word. Argumenting like this implies me to say: Hey maybe you dropped it yourself? Bottom Line: The sword was sended in a 100% condition from germany to hawai in a package I think it was well protected. It arrived damaged. I am sorry. I am not responsible. I am not feeling guilty. Try to claim DHL local. There is nothing I can do here in germany because for international parcels the receiver is responsible to do the claim. Insurance is only for €500,-- and only for total loss. Anyway it was in a condition it needs a polish. That was known and communicated. Try to get it repaired. End of story!
  7. Ouch!!!!! I think that Charles can underline that I tried to pack it as good as possible. This looks like that someone really must have thrown the parcel! The blade was wrapped in clear kitchen foil, than in the saya, this all than was wrapped and taped in bubble foil and on bot ends was styrofoam with at least 8-10 cm air between to the walls of the cardbox. This also was filled with stuf to prevent the bunch of moving ! maybe it would have been a better idea to left the tsuka on the blade but afterwards everybody is more clever....... I am really sorry for this Charles and hope that your polisher can find a way to remove this! The sad thing is that this is already the second time this happened. When I first got it from another NMB Member the same happened with him. It was already repaired here from a polisher. But I know there is still enough "flesh" left before a polisher will touch the boshi (5-8 mm). I would ask him first to try if it can be bend back, anyway here is no danger because it is already damaged. So if this will fail he anyway needs to polish it away and as you know a complete polish would anyhow be neccessary! Because it is a longer Kissaki and the Yokote isn`t clear after these hundred of years he can reshape the complete Kissaki in a way the curve and symmetry will be kept.
  8. hey guys, can you please stop to speculate until charles has confirmed that the sword is really damaged! I believe he just had seen the hole in the box and "thinks" that the sword is damaged! It was packed in a way that a damage is close to impossible until someone dropped it from a 10m high wall to concrete! So lets see what charles will write when he opened it fully or had send some pictures! I am sure its just a suggestion instead of a fact!
  9. I am sure Charles did not open the parcel! The Box had that hole already when I sended it away! It was that hole that caused the first damage of the Kissaki when I received it from another NMB Member but was repaired afterwards. I am sure that charles saw this hole and did not go through the package! Whyever he did the posting in advance is quite curious........
  10. What???????? I packed it so well including styrofoam and it was secured on both ends and still went through the package??? On top it was in the saya and taped! So that would mean that someone really must have thrown it ! Can´t believe this! Can you do pictures?
  11. Hi, thanks to point oiut that the original question had nothing to do with the length....... different to lots of other discussions So, the idea to get a gunto is gone! I will let AOI Art do the koshirae I posted the pictures of. They accept parttime payment and thats fine for me. Also I asked them to give it to shinsa before delivery. Let's see what pops out
  12. Huhu, soem opinions if this blade isnt't hand forged?? Railway Steel???
  13. Hmm, now someone made me nervous. he said I have a 95% chance that the sword is not made from Tamahagane but of Railway Steel! I don't want to believe this! What's your Opinion?
  14. OK Paid it. Will take three weeks now to receive it until all paperwork is done. I believe my eyes and the pictures AOI are doing on their page are one of the best if you look on other Webpages. So I believe that the polish is exactly as described. I also asked for a complete koshirae but they asked US$ 2.000,-- for it...... So thats above my budget at the moment. Is someone willing to sell a complete WWII mounting to me? I am sure that the wooden scabbard can be replaced by one that will fit to my sword. I have an offer for a good quality WWII koshirae for US$ 400,-- Someone able to beat this?
  15. Hi, it seems that you are more concerned to the length of the blade then to the tang, which I count for me as : There is nothing weared. So I will pay tonight! For the german speakers here: Ich denke das ist ein gutes Paket was AOI dort bietet. Frisch poliert und als Anfängerschwert genug zum betrachten. Ausserdem mag ich das wilde Hamon. Ich weis, ein Hamon im Suguha Stil ist was für "Kenner" aber Schönheit liegt im Auge des Betrachters :D
  16. Hi memebers, I am close to buy this Item: The funny thing with this sword is that the length of the Ha is exactly the length of the year I was born in and that double "66" They already setted the Item on hold for me and I just would like to have a slight push from all of you to fall in the "transfer money" direction :D The only thing I am a bit worried about is the shape of the tang! This is quite unusual isn't it? And there are plenty of Kanenaga's around. Someone knows something specific about the one who is mentioned here? Otherwise for this money it seems a fair deal?! Andreas[/img]
  17. Hi Folks, I had already discussions with Charles and explained that the saya wasn't ever made for this sword. The previous owner or the one before took just one that was in a corner somewhere available. The Tsuka wrap is one of the cord wrap type! There are not many tsuka wrappers around who are able to do this! In respect of the age of the sword and the total condition, I would only do a part restauration. As I already said, just give it a little polish so that the mune will have the original shape again and a slight surface polish so that the Hamon/hada becomes clear! It is still sharp like hell. Believe me, my left hand tried it with the Balm..... First get a new saya! Decide to have a shirasaya or a painted one. Then get a polish for the blade. Thats the way to do it! Don't change the fittings! They fit together and are of a nice style especially the menukis! The Fushi got repaired because was broken where the sword slides in. It got solded and lost a bit the patina but it is easy to get a "new" Patina on it as it is brass. Ask some fitting specialist here, They now how to "age" this. The Tsuba is of no Value. Ask a member here "Bungo" if he can sell you one that fits better or has a better style. I would try to get one with some bamboo on it. This would be a perfect match for the fitings. Andreas
  18. Hmm, Looks a bit starnge for me. Definately a question of taste. It looks that the knots are not on the same line (level) and it seems that the width of the leather band varies. A textile wrap would have looked more stylish. This looks a bit like plastic for my eyes. But as I said in the beginning, it's a question of taste. Andreas

    WWII Katana

  20. I am also quite new to these stuff and have not seen this before. But thats because I am virgin, maybe  It was just obvious that this area looks different. But if it is as you said it's fine. Andreas
  21. I don't know if someone had seen it but if you look on the Bohi right to the tip, you can see that the areas where the shinogi is visible, the lines are moving and getting separated. For me it looks that a polsher in the past have flattened the first part oft the sword to remove damage. You should see a different blade shape if you look from the top on the mune? Andreas
  22. Hmm, I am not that much professional to this but from the tang the sword looks much mor older. On top comes that the sword must have had lots of polishes because the Ha-Machi is quite slim. The Hamon looks like gunome midare. I don't know if this is typical for a period. I would say the sword must have been made in mid Edo period. Andreas
  23. I set my Wakizashi on E-bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/OWakizashi-attribut ... dZViewItem I am wiling to trade for a katana if someone likes it and will end the auction earlier. There is work necessary on this blade! Andreas
  24. You mean if you send it to a shinsa? With the experience I made with "approved" and "judged" blades (papers) I am sure they will find something really really valuable in it.........
  25. I also tried a lot already One thing is for sure. You need a lot of indirect light. Each picture you will do with an internal flash will fail. I got the best results with an external flash wire connected to the "hotshoe" of the camera and the flas reverse flashes against a white wall. If you want to use a compact digital you will only get medium pictures. Also a god aproach might be to use a Zoom Lens. Another pratice is to use a flatbed scanner and digititze the blade. There was a page somewhere in the I-Net who discribed that.
