  1. Welcome all! You are in patient and generous hands with the experts (not me) on this board!
  2. LOVE this sword and fittings, great buy!
  3. Well seems I was beat to it lol.
  4. Jeff, I have the book at home. Believe it or not I am playing Donkey Basketball for a fundraiser tonight, so it will be about 8 or 9 when I get home. I'll check and let you know if the smith is in there. Great book though, I love how it lets the smith talk about his life and work.
  5. Ok, thanks Mark.
  6. I know some JSSUS members are on here and I had a quick question. I was just wondering when it was OK to send in dues for next year. I am assuming that it would be fine to send mine in for next year but just checking. Also, the newsletter this month was fantastic! Great pictures of great tsubas! Thanks for all your hard work this year!
  7. Thank you. :D
  8. Hah I meant traditional or non traditional made. Should have specified.
  9. Huh, I haven't seen that stamp before. Anyone know the meaning behind it?
  10. Ah thanks! 163$ for an actual traditionally made blade though is dang cheap I thought though. Most of the time they go for at least 500. I was just wondering if there was some fatal flaw to the blade. If only I was my own togishi
  11. First off I'm not buying this but for knowledge sake, why is this going so cheap still? I know it will prob snipe up about 200 dollars the last few min but 30 min out and still under 200 dollars? Its in old polish and the saya is way rustic but still.....is there some flaw my noob eyes aren't seeing? http://www.ebay.com/itm/antique-Japanes ... 3a98b9a3d2 Thanks for your time!
  12. Thanks Jean! Time to go get some of Markus's books!
  13. As the title says, thank you all for saving me crazy amounts of money. My Nihonto journey so far has gone from looking on ebay, too diving into this forum, then to reading the books you all suggested, going to shows, and now I'm getting the bug to buy again. Today I saw what looked like a good deal, but checked the stamp (on here) and found out it was not a traditionally made sword. So after a year and a half of my learning process you guys still help me out all the time by posting in this forum and I can not thank you enough for sharing.
  14. I completely agree David. I do not look to buy, but just to learn. Right now I am still reading what I can get my hands on and what you guys graciously share :D.
  15. OOOOOh, ok thanks mark. I just need to read the descriptions more carefully. Also, thank you everyone else that helped!
  16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-Japanese-S ... 3394eeafdd Hey guys, I was doing my normal browsing and this popped up. The hamon looked a little off, what do you all think? Thank you for your time, Jason
  17. Peter, Google chrome translated it for me in a minute or two :D. Thank you for the topic to study! I didn't even know I wanted to study this but it has been very interesting.
  18. Welcome Koga, Like everyone has said, people here are beyond helpful and knowledgeable :D
  19. Yup I agree. I bought it last year and great info in there!
  20. How about a Mintogawa sword book like the Kishida Yasakuni book! I have the Herman Wallinga book, but I would like something more extensive.
  21. Thank you for the quick replies! I appreciate the affirmation that is it not traditional. I was pretty sure it was not, but I thought I would ask just to make sure.
  22. I'm thinking this is not traditional because it has a stamp and the Habaki looks off. Because of the price and condition of the blade I am leaving it up to the experts. Do you guys think this is a traditional blade or not? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Beautiful-Japan ... 5664941349 Thank you for your time!
  23. Stu, I did not see any shrine swords but I could have missed one. I had pictures of tsuba's but my camera was set to high and I cannot for some reason shrink them down enough to post them here. Next year I will know to turn it down. All and all it was a great show. I saw the most in polish swords at the military show from a guy in Oregon. Apparently he was selling them for a lady that had a husband that wanted to get out of swords.
  24. Bah, thanks for the info Mark. Then back to my original plan of being a fly on the wall to listen and learn.
  25. What day is the lecture? I have a football coaching conference that weekend and will not make it up until Sunday.
