I went and saw this, was amazing.

this reminded me of a documentary I saw but cannot find. It featured a man who owned a home in nyc that was completely redone to Japanese home standards(quoting what i remember them saying). He had sectioned off a part of his home in a highrise i belive and made it almost seem as though he were in Japan, thats how well the re-model had be done. anyone know what im talking about?

i kind find info on the area and specific examples but I wish I could find the actual smith. There is nothing on the other side, no other signature info. so i imagine it was just one of the students of that school in that area?

I was concerned it could have been from an acid polish. I hate the fact that i asked Fred Lohman to polish, restore and sharpen and he sent it back duller and i pointed it out and he made up an excuse, promised to fix it and then re negged on the fixing it.

The issue was was that i was recommended to lohman before i really started collecting and didnt know any better. No the sword didnt have the grainy appearance, it had a few spot of finger rust that was very "surface". When i got the blade back i called fred and complained and he told me i got a 2-3k polish job for a much better deal :x. So this was about 3.5 years ago that he did the work, so i was examining the blade to get a grasp on wether or not i could fix it recently. I did find one person so im looking into his history and references. i will never use fred nor would i recommend him to anyone. He also did a new tsuka for me and said he would do a full stingray wrap but only did panels. So much for paying for whats advertised and getting what your supposed to, i got toasted in many ways.

He sent it back not sharp like I sent it to him and it didnt have the streaks. i just wanted to know peoples opinion on the blade, if it was starting to show wear and if i should send to qualified person this time to fix the damage fred might have done.

hey guys you helped me with the signature of this blade and i wanted to see what you thought the condition of this blade was in, if its possible to get a really solid polish out of it and fix it. Maybe you guys can explain the streaks and cloudiness.

He said he could have chosen a sword all dressed but found beauty in the shirasaya's simplicity. He did use it to chase people from his home before(intruders)

I find info on Shimosaka but nothing pertaining to Esshu. Maybe im not searching the right words

I find if to be interesting that my grandfather picked this sword out of everything available and now i have it.

Im going to try to find more info, i can find blades from that group but not by that smith. Any thoughts on date of blade? My grandfather brought this back in shirasaya from ww2.

So i took the tsuka off my grandfathers sword. Its very very difficult to make out all characters to translate but I will attach all that I have taken for you guys to look I tried my best, it seemed like the middle of the signature was kind of unreadable. I really need help figuring this one out. thanks

Exactly. I had been browsing Nicks site for a while. Like I had mentioned, I started out looking for a tanto but I just couldnt pass up this sword. Everything that comes with it, its just really a nice piece. I had also purchased a tsuba from him too that will go on my other piece.
