Thank you Curran for this extremely interesting information. I read in the Wikipedia description: The name refers to the fact that the tip of the chili pepper (唐辛子, tōgarashi) looks like the lion (獅子, shishi) head; in Japanese, it is often abbreviated as shishitō.[2] As a consequence would it be a way to show a ShiShi dog on this kozuka in the way of a rebus? Japanese culture brings so many topics of interests!

I have purchased this kozuka recently at an auction in Austria due to the rare topic of a chili pepper (I did not know that Japanese where using chili peper in their cooking) This kozuka is mumei and I have really no information on a specific school. Should you have some clues, they are much more than welcome.

A guess, could it be the transcription of the French brand "Cardeilhac" into kanji ? The blade seems to have been made by this famous french silversmith name, end of 19th century in France.
