  1. Piers, a great thank you for this very precise information. But I still do not see the link between the sword 'Lion King" and the old man scaring away a flight of cranes or storks, on my tsuba. Is it a hidden message related to the story if the Emperor Narihito thanking Yorimasa for killing the Nue ?
  2. Thank you Steve. This information is very precious to me despite the fact that I didn't find any information on the net. Nothing either in my books as "Ko ji Ho Ten" or Joly's "Legend in Japanese Art".

  4. Thank you Brian for your interest. Could you move this thread at "Tosogu" in order to have potential information on my tsuba topic. Who is the Guy on my tsuba ?
  5. Thank you Uwe. Any informatioin on the design ? It is probably a legend but which one ?

  7. Hi, any help on the artist transalation would be an help. I guess it is Tanaka Aki Yoshi - Haruaki school but translation of the certificate would confirm. Thank youtsuba542-certificat.pdf
  8. Hi, I have this mumei tsuba having a lot of tanaka school kantei points (size, design). On the other hand, what bothers me is that most of the tanaka school tsuba are made of iron/steel and mine is in Suaka. In addition there is no seki gane which could bring another clue for the school. This tsuba represents the 3 friend of winter - Saikan no sanyu (Pine tree, Bamboo and plum tree). What are your views? Any idea of whom could be the maker ?
  9. 守邨厚隆 Morimura Atsutaka is lited in Haynes under reference H00162. He is mentionned as being a student of Goto Shinjo. Your tsuba is reaaly a marvel to be restored.
  10. Alex, Nakago size is 3 cm by 1 cm.
  11. Thank you Glen for such nice exemples. I tend to think my tsuba being from the very beginning of Edo. You braught information I could'nt find myself on the web. Thank you so much once again !
  12. Robert, the seller (Australian one) sold it to me in 2008 as a late muromachi / Momoyama one but I had my doubts. That's the reason why, after research , I was calling for more help on NMB
  13. Hi Piers, Tsuba dimension is: Thickness: 0,2 to 0,3 cm at mimi. Height is 7,7 cm Width is 7,5 cm Thank you for your interest.
  14. Thank you Steven for your kind help! I have no tsuba of that kind.
  15. Thank you Jean and Glen. Definitivly an edo tsuba for sure and probably a tribute to armourer Smith. Thank you for your interest.
  16. Thank you Robert for your kind comments. In fact this tsuba is quite thin but as for Katchushi attribution it does not look like a Tosho tsuba either.
  17. Hi, I have this square iron tsuba for a while. I purchased it as a "Katchushi school tsuba" but I have some doubt as many kantei points do not correspond (mimi / Kiku gata / Fan design /....). Just to point out that this tsuba is ubu. What are you views?
  18. Hi, I got this empty box in a recently lot purchase and I guess someone could tell me what kind of tsuba was in it! Thank you
  19. Thank you @IekatsuThomas to have given an information i didn't have.
  20. Thank you @BazzaBazza for these very fine exemples. @ROKUJURO Jean you are perfectly right, it is more brass than copper and yes my pictures are very bad and you have eagle eyes. A Last attempt With a (i hope) better picture.
  21. Bazza just to confirm after a close look, that they are fully coper but their design make me think they might be from muromachi erea. Thank you for your interest.
