  1. Thanks do'nt be sorry it's a nice letter opener
  2. I found this in my dads collection and he had a note identifying it as a rare tosu, forged steel blade with hamon, wooden sheath symbol of rank men and women. I have had no luck identifying it though any help would be great thank you
  3. Sorry for the slow reply Malcolm, internet issues. Thank you for the information and I will downsize and try my best to show them the right way up in future. Thanks again Vaughn
  4. G/day all I recently posted this on the general discussion board which was of great help, I also posted a photo of some miniature writing I found on this piece but have not yet got a reply and I am just wondering if maybe someone on this board may help with it. Hopefully it may tell who carved it or some light on the story of the carvings or may just be something they did to make it look good any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Vaughn
  5. I went over the carvings with a magnifying glass and found some writing not sure if it helps with identification or it is just something the carver did to make it look good
  6. I would go for the window polish but i'm pretty sure there's no one in Newcastle Australia qualified to do that or is there? Any help on that?. Also thanks once again for all the input and advice and if anyone can help any further that would be great because there is not any place that I have found where I can take my swords to find out any information locally so keep the great work up everyone. Thanks Vaughn
  7. The blade is not in the best condition nor the photo's but you can see a hamon in them
  8. Nagasa is approx 33,2cm-13inch.
  9. Hi John I oiled it up and wiped it down which it removed some of the light rust and there seems to be a hamon on it, large smooth rounded hills or mountains if that adds up to the carvings. I will leave a little oil on it over night and wipe it down tomorrow and check again and hope to get a photo of it. Thanks heaps for all the help Vaughn
  10. G/day all, Managed to push the blade out,no markings or signature so I am hoping the shape of the tang may help with a possible time frame of the sword that may tell if it is a touristy item. Thanks Vaughn
  11. Thanks everyone for the advice I will try and find someone in my local area to have a look at it.
  12. G/day all, found this in my dads collection and I am not sure how to remove the blade to see if it is signed without breaking some of the bone carvings, although it looks like someone already has any help would be great
  13. Thank you all for the help for identifying this blade and it's history,i will put it away and continue researching the wonderful world of Japanese swords it has been an eye opener for me thank you all. What would be the best way to store it until i can have it appraised for restoration please?
