Hello all experts at the forum, I purchased a katana in mounting (saya and seppa's are new, perhaps also kashira and fuchi). But i believe the blade has some years behind it. The blade is about 68 cm from hamachi to kissaki, it looks quite healthy (in my opinion anyway). The saya is made very precise to the blade with a perfect fit, but as said i think its modern. It has a very nice balance, although it doesnt have any bo-hi. The hamon is not very pronounced, but its there and its parallell to the blade. No signature. I really would like some oppinions on this blade, if its possible to say anything. Its my first nihonto (well i hope it is a nihonto) in katana size and i perhaps intend to use it in iaido later, with other mountings. please see pictures (if i can figure out how to add them...) Best regards /Mikael

I have seen other swords from this seller in Sweden (reqognize the surroundings), looking the same, stating its genuine, but its 100% fake as the other members state.

If you have a friend in spain, making the non-eu country seller send it there first, might remove the extra tax, as spain has tax treaties with many non-eu countries. making them pay the sending country's tax. Well in spain, the package is within eu and i dont think there will be an additional tax. What I have heard this is possible.

Interesting book, I would like the name of that book. Is it about sword metallurgy specifically?

i think this is probably (as the mei says only Yashushige???): YASUSHIGE(2) TEN-SHO (f: YASUSHIGE 1): YAMAMOTO TOUEMON. Worked from TEN-SHO 1573 to KEICHO 1596. Standing, evenly set JORIN-MOKU HADA. KO-NIE GUNOME with ASHI-IRI undulates. KO-MARU BOSHI or TOGARI. FUKUGATA Belly-shaped NAKAGO finds KURIJIRI. MEI: YASUSHIGE got it from: http://www.sho-shin.com/tokai8.htm

... or the uchiko is like a rubbing when cleaning a car laquer? If a lot of oxides on the car laquer you might use a rubbing compound to remove it, prior to vaxing/sealing it. The rubbing compound also have some weak grinding properties.

Hi folks, Thanks for all the tips here! I must say i agree with Ken-Hawaii here. I wouldnt dare to use a lot of chemicals like alcohol, isopropanol etc, also this uchiko powder i guess should be avoided until very necessary, as Ken says its made from stone. Why is it ever used? perhaps a novice word, but previously i believed that the powder used on blades was to dry out potential humidity before adding oil to it.

Hi Ken, thanks for the info! I will try to find that kind of oil. I have never owned a Nihonto before and as i by a change got over this one, i wasnt prepared for it. Ok, a drying rod, whats that and where can i find it? Best Regards /Mikael

Please if someone else have some more information, i would appreicate very much if you can tell me. Would be nice if possible to pin-pint which Yasushige made this tanto/Wak

Thanks for your answers, so it should be a blade from the end of 1500 something? I came over it by a change really, and im not going to sell it, but it should be interesting to know the approximate value of this blade. I have it in a shirasaya mounting, that should be perhaps fropm the 1800- something.

Is it possible to say which YASUSHIGE in Shimohara it is? I found this one http://www.sho-shin.com/tokai8.htm Is it CHIKASHIGE, who in the year of 1523 changed name to YASUSHIGE? Or is it one of his followers? I guess sons. Also i have a question which oil to use for this kind of old sword.

Can anyone give me some information about my katana
azizaedelam replied to azizaedelam's topic in Nihonto
That was a lot of info, thanks all you guys, altough it wasnt really the info i wished for , especially that signature being a singer, what a joke... I guess this sword doesnt have the standard for this forum, so excuse me for that, however it has a hardening line (guess its called hamom) that is visible, but hard to catch on picture. Its supposed to be a damascus blade, is that true? -

Can anyone give me some information about my katana
azizaedelam replied to azizaedelam's topic in Nihonto
Hej guys, Thanks for your fast answers. To bad its a chinese copy Well, it was in my mind it could be. I didnt pay that much for it, about 120 pounds, but it would have been nicer if it was real Japanese. Thanks from a beginner. -
Hi, Im a bit curious about this katana I bought on an auction in Sweden some time ago. It has a signature on the side telling its intended as a katana. The signature says something like "Universe shines in many rice fields" and my investigations have shown me theres a place in Nagano called "The moon shines in many rice fields", soo anyone knowing something about it? Please see the pictures enclosed. Regards /Mikael
