  2. I just found this on another sword forum and tried to find out more info on it. http://www.swordforum.com/forums/showth ... ntal-blade)-in-Shirasaya What do you guys think?
  3. So the sword came in today. Everything Looks good but the blade definitely needs a polish. Fist gunto mount I have that the lock is still perfectly tight and working. An interesting thing is that both the nagako and nagasa is not a perfect fit onto the mount with both being shorter (It's a short blade at just a tad over 24'). Is this a common thing since the koshirae are standarized and mass produced? Dated november 1944 I think Pictures here: http://imgur.com/a/OnqcP So in the end, is koketsu kanekami and koketsu kanetaka the same person and the pronunciation is just different? On this page(http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/seki.htm) it has the signature as being kanekami but koketsu kanetaka also exists as well so it's a tad confusing.
  4. What do you guys think of this sword? (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Long-Japanese-A ... 1546655423) I've alwasy wanted a kyu gunto and I think this one looks pretty good, though a bit tired.
  5. I'm guessing pictures of the mei would help a lot more. Smiths of the same name could use different kanji and such and a long with the posibility of gimei, pictures would be needed to correctly identify the smith I tihnk.
  6. I'm jealous. I've been looking for a blade in cane mount for a while but haven't had any luck
  7. My main concern was the no return policy on it so I wasn't going to bid on it. I can't trust ebay sellers who doesn't offer some sort of return policy with gimei, various fatal flaws, and conditions being such a problem, especially for any smith that's even remotely well-know.
  8. wow it just sold for a tad over 3k, glad i didn't try to bid on it
  9. At least the koraeshi are in shape good
  10. http://www.ebay.com/itm/281392011909?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT I found this while browsing through ebay today. Came across this and this dealer in general. Do you guys think this is legit? In my opinion it seems too good to be true, but he does have a interesting selection of blades on his websites as well.
  11. I do wish there's more information on the various RJT, especially since they're the main smiths producing nihonto during that time period and some can be quite exceptional.
  12. I assume he's koketsu kanekami since it's the only kanekami i find with the kanji like that.
  13. Yeah he's not on Hawley but on this page http://www.jp-sword.com/files/seki/gendaito.html he's rated jo saku and won first seat so i'm trying to dig more info
  14. I can't find other examples of his sword so it felt weird that he only signed his last name
  15. The hamon looks to be very active so I took a bet on this. I'm crossing my fingers that no flaws will show up....I'm thinking Chris Osborne or Hofhine for polish but I'm not sure yet
  16. Hi, Just recently acquired another gendaito. Would the signature (picture attached) be the same as 纐纈 兼上 (Kanekami) Thanks for helping me
  17. Hi, I recently acquired a star stamped gendaito signed (tachi mei?) Noshu Ju Kanenobu 濃州住兼延. It's in an old polish but I think someone at one point might have attempted to clean it up a little. Did some research on him and I found him on hawley. Just trying to check now if everything is in good order and wondering if I should have it professionally polished? I also found 2 recent kanenobu blade sold from showa22 that seem to be in better condition, as well as one from yakiba(Ed) Other than that the mount seems to be in good order and in a pretty good condition. No dent on the saya except some discoloration and everything is tight. The lock doesn't seem to be working too well and the bamboo meguki is a bit loose. Pictures here: http://imgur.com/a/ugABh (They're not too great)
  18. Yeah, that's what I thought too but I wasn't too sure since I don't have enough experience to be 100% I wasn't going to get the blade in the first place but it intrigues me
  19. Hi everyone, I'm still learning a lot about nihonto (trying to get more knowledge to spot differences between a good and bad blade) and I came across a blade on Ebay that i'm curious about. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Didication-KATA ... 43cb86d7ef) Is there a reason why a smith would carve the horimono on one side of the blade in 2 different places other than to hide faults?
  20. Thank you everyone, I found him on both hawley and the index of Japanese swordsmith seem like i can't find many examples of his work
  21. Hi, I recently acquired this sword and I'm looking for some help translation the mei. I was informed by the seller that it might be michimasa and another forum member said it may be Naomasa 直政 Maybe Washu ju Tomoyoshi
  22. Also if any one can chip in opinions on the blade it would be great!
  23. Thank you for that. Ill go do some research on those names. I just hope I did decent on my first eBay blade I'm trying to do the translation on both side too but I suck at kanji
  24. Hi everybody, I recently purchased a star stamped gunto, my first from eBay and I need help with the translation as well as some more opinion on the blade to gauge how well I did. Thank you in advance! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-WWII- ... 7675.l2557
  25. I was recently offered this blade for about 1k. I was wondering if this would be a good deal or not? it seem to be in pretty decent shape and appears to be mumei
