Hello, Ive had permission to list this Kabuto in the Katchu section for discussion as i have been offered it as part payment on the sale of one of my swords. To be honest, i dont know much about them. Its described as late Edo with more recent maedate and chord As pointed out, an unusual shape. Thanks for any help.

Filing ?, or just wear and tear from taking the kogai in and out. Later additions, lucky to find a pair which are an identical match, or if made, you would think after going to all that bother to match, they would be made to fit without having to file existing fittings. -
Cheers Brian, in hand and compared to most of the swords i have owned, you just know it was made by a very talented smith. Its on hold for a short while longer Thank you

Ive got 2 blades out, the Koto Uda and a later Edo blade. Just for comparison, i took pictures of both side by side. I will mention that the Edo Katana is narrow towards the kissaki, reminds me of a tachi. Anyways, and being honest, the first thought i had when i slid out the Uda was that i was god dam hasty when i dropped the price. Probably the mood i was in. Ive added photos of the loose hada, again, worse in pics.

Strange times Curran. Shigemasa, drooled over many on here, think they belonged to Joe, would be good to own one. Whilst im here, the dimensions. Blade length 25cm Total length 34cm Moto-habe 2.8cm, then gently narrows towards the point Just realised ive forgot kasane. I can get that for anyone interested, its typical thickness.

Hi Jp, I cant guarantee I can buy it back. I hope so, but my industry been hit hard by this covid and as a 48 year old one trick pony I don't know whether il be able to afford it. Il see, thanks!

Thanks Jp, appreciated, very much Just had an unbelievably kind offer from a gentleman offering just that, without conditions. I gratefully declined as it is not his field of collecting, but shows what wonderful people are out there in this niche community. Im sure it will sell eventually, thanks for the kind words.

Thanks Greg and Mal, appreciate your kind and positive comments. Will add dimensions soon, its a good sized tanto

Hoping to sell this one with a gentleman's agreement in that if it sells then the buyer offer me the first chance to buy it back, should they ever sell. Tanto by Mukansa smith Enomoto Sadayoshi, dated Heisei 7th, 1995. He won many NBTHK competitions and since 1981 was highly regarded and treated as such. He was awarded top level title of Mukansa in 8th year of Heisei 1996 . To attain Mukansa one would have to win many competitions over many years. He was known for making swords well into old age and sadly died in 2001 at the age of 91. The blade is in Soshu tradition with Mitsu-mune and a hamon with beautiful Nie which he was known for. The blade is in shirasaya and there is sayagaki by Sadahito Sadayoshi, his son. Sentimental to me, and also for me, far better than any shinsa papers. Gold foil Habaki. Thanks to Chris Bowen for his assistance. I wont go on, loads on the internet and dont want to get accused of exaggerating sales. Not one i ever intended to sell and will be sad to see it go, should it sell. If anyone wants more pics or info, pm me. £3500.

Mumei and Suriage - Open Discussion

I feel something has to be said. I think there is more to this than meets the eye. I dont get involved in Rays threads usually because i dont like the way he has been with people in the past with his opinions, condescending from his soapbox. I see enough of that in general life, people on the news etc thinking its only their opinion that matters and if you dont agree, then well. Ive seen Ray over recent years state publicly that a well known and reliable dealer here sells junk, even though they have done business in the past. Ive seen him ruin a thread where a well respected and knowledgeable collector bought a sword that does not meet his criteria. Ive seen him call another experienced collector a ****. I could go on, but wont. Several months ago he was being his usual self and i stated that i wasnt so impressed with his collection (being honest) I listed the Uda, then low and behold a few days later Ray starts this thread (?) At that time i thought thats a bit strange and wouldnt have got involved in this thread but felt i had to. I made my point about sword transisitions at the beginning of the thread. Personally, i think its idiotic and again condescending to state that that folk should not collect suriage Muromachi swords Its an expensive hobby and not all of us have the luxury to shop for valuable swords Saying that though, i have owned and do own some very good quality swords by some great smiths and have been collecting long enough to know what i like without someone dictating what i should buy. The Uda for the money is actually a very great sword to own, see what else that gets you in the UK. Every sword i buy (should i buy another), no doubt will eventually be sold, no one should have to put up with this kind of Trolling. Ray is simply a troll. -

Apologies to the 99.9 % for my loss of temper. Im sure most will understand, selling swords is seldomly easy, even without all this. Best. -
