  1. The thing about the ignore button Brian is that it don't stop him carrying on regardless Just see further comments when not logged in. If there was a way to totally block someone, id defo be up for that. Ps. I have politely asked him twice to stay away from my posts, but he carries on. Just a professional Troll.
  2. A vast majority of antique swords come under the "historic weapon" category. A lot of the time, not much "art", more function. Luckily, folks like yourself Erik, and the likes of NBTHK recognize they should be preserved. Horses for courses.
  3. Boo, get him off The Dick Dastardly of NMB pathetic.
  4. Jacques, i didn't link it for high flyers like yourself. Again, as explained in the first post , Linked it for folks on a tight budget that are maybe just looking for an original signed naginata with Hozen. What have i told you about staying out of my posts? Stay out.
  5. Don't remember seeing many waks by those guys.
  6. I never stated it was a bargain. Try finding a signed Naginata, in polish, with papers for £1200 in the UK. Its not happening. I think there are always reasonably priced items in that store, but that's just my opinion.
  7. One more thing. Just because you can does not mean you need to go out and spend a fortune (for most) on your first sword. Can get great swords for a lot less. Hell, buy a few cheaper swords, 5 or so, learn a bit Then buy the big one. Guarantee you will appreciate it more
  8. Just thought i would bring this Naginata to the attention of those on a tight budget. For the money, think its very good value. Naginata: Kozuke Kami Sugawara Sukekane (NBTHK Hozon Token) | Japanese Sword Shop Aoi-Art (aoijapan.com)
  9. If you want “art”, buy a Shinsakuto You want a sword as it was made, without wear. Thats just my opinion
  10. After several beers, this idea cropped up. As for future when maybe things get tighter. Folks in the UK, form a business, share any incurred costs Maybe Token society get involved, whoever. Any swords shipped get shipped through business account. Problem solved Might be over/under thinking this, just ideas. In other words, if being an average Joe is going to be a future problem, the average Joe needs to leave the equation.
  11. As always Eva, buy a book first. Don't let others choose for you as you wont appreciate what you have.
  12. Hello James. Being honest, you really will need to get that tsuka sorted out, whoever wrapped the tsuka did one hell of a shoddy job. It ruins the appearance of your sword
  13. Makes me wonder if some dealers with contracts will step up in the future to ship stuff for average Joe Obviously for a fee. Ps, not looked into the ins and out of it but is getting listed with a courier as a "antiques trader" a big deal?, as in do it yourself
  14. I know UPS ships end to end and has their own customs clearance. Same with DHL with one last year. Had one from Fedx recently and pretty sure they delivered it to the door.
  15. Didn't hear back from the local Labour MP, what a surprise. Did hear back from the messenger service asking did i get a reply. Replied, NO. Did hear back from Aoi Art in Japan, see below................... We have not shipped a sword very recently after 24th Jan. We have heard the news that the UK stopped EMS. But still, we can ship a sword by alternative method(company), Fedex or UPS. Kind regards, Aoi Art
  16. For maybe the 9th time, just take a look at the swords of the 47 Ronin True Daisho may have been the goal for some but not always reality for others.
  17. Hi, Samurai did on occasion pair oddball swords and fittings together, its not an exact science. The tsuka look recent and fairly amateur As said though, nothing wrong as a pair for display. Daisho with real old provenance, in untouched condition, rare as hens teeth. Ps, only looked at the koshirae, blade looks out of polish
  18. Hello. Dont want to rain on your parade but not a genuine daisho Likely cobbled together not so long ago. Decent for display purpose maybe
  19. My first thoughts are that saya are always longer than blades and 3" does not sound out of the ordinary. Got a wak that has a saya 5.5" longer, yet it was made for the wak.
  20. I would contact a polisher and ask him if there is anything you can do. Maybe something along the line of what Jean says about using antler or copper. It is tiny and only appears to be on the surface. Would hope for an outcome that does not leave a brown patina stain, even though tiny. Let us know how you get on. Stuff happens with these swords, most folks don't realize how easily stuff like this can happen until it happens to them. Scuffs from the saya are another issue. One has to be ULTRA careful with polished swords. As for the oil and additives. I see your point. Used that particular oil for well over a dozen years without issue. During that time switched to a light machine oil because that's what folks were saying to use, then immediately switched back. The light machine oil seemed super low viscosity, didn't appear to form a proper film, just little globules everywhere. Only need a TINY amount.
  21. Its unfortunate but at least very tiny. Wouldn't worry too much about it. Once its neutralized, if not already, maybe buy a modern oil with a rust inhibitor such as express gun oil.
  22. Ps, I don't know anything about tsuba, only read the basic books. Though i know a good tsuba and a bad tsuba. Just buy what i like, most of the time not interested in who made it.
  23. Was going to say learn to recognize what junk is but as mentioned above by Dale " one man's trash is another's treasure" An example. Some folks refer to old iron plate Tosho tsuba as "large washers". I kind of get that but at the time lots of folk including me like them. Some folks like old Ko Kinko tsuba whilst others turn their noses up. Horses for courses. If you like posh stuff, maybe look at threads like this to learn to recognize quality.
  24. Aye, would have wanted clearer, more informing images. Saying that though, usually don't get a reply when you ask, if Ebay. Its undesirable, what matters is what you think, and learn.
