    Tsuba Etc

Correct, I just found reference that several generations within the Aoki family signed Tetsunin / Tetsujin. Not just the 2.

    Tsuba Etc

I really need to write up a post on this Tetsunin fellow and his family as it is very interesting stuff. And actually the 2 brothers in the family both signed using Tetsunin which, I think, will make compaing signatures rather challenging...

    Tsuba Etc

What a coincidence as my Tetsunin Tsuba also arrived today. However, I did NOT get a fancy box only a travel pouch
  4. WIshing I could take back a few of my recent purchases and buy that Nara, soooooo nice!
  5. I agree, super nice Tsuba.
  6. Apparently it is now unstuck... nevermind!
  7. You all ever have this happen, it arrived in NYC and EMS status is "Retention" which means customs is inspecting as far as I can tell. How often does this happen and how long does it take?
  8. Good idea, will do...
  9. Thanks Pete!
  10. Looking for reference material covering Ko-Nara as well as early Tetsunin / Saga Kaneie works. Web site links or books... Thanks!
  11. Thanks, just located it on the JSSUS web site...
  12. Can not find this in my book, anyone know?
  13. Thanks for the info and I agree, yours is nicer. As for the iron, would you say it might be sand iron? Or not?
  14. Wowser, that is pretty pricey!
  15. Per tsuba #6, I am not familiar with Hizen school tsuba, were they known for the rope designed rim? Curious as to the Hizen school call. I see nihonto.us has one for sale which is very similar that they have attributed Tochibata and they make mention that Sendai Myochin also used the same design (as the one they have for sale). Link to that one : http://nihonto.us/TOCHIBATA%20TSUBA%20DM006.htm Also, what are the dimensions on that one?

    Kaneiye Tsuba

Found another NTHK with same designation. It reads "Early Edo" (Edo Shoki).

    Kaneiye Tsuba

Can someone help translate the attributed era on the paper? (see attached)
  18. Really nice Tsuba though I am not a fan of having the moon on both sides, especially the one at the level of the waves.

    Kaneiye Tsuba

Arnold - Thanks for the info and I see it made Kanteisho but where do I find the points value? Pat

    Kaneiye Tsuba

Attached are "touched up" seller pics of a recent acquisition. Curran helped me translate the attribution from the NTHK papers : Yamashiro kuni, kodai Kaneiye Dimensions 80 mm × 78 mm × thickness 4 mm So, which Kaneiye (school) might this be from? I am unsure if the papers go into that level of detail or not (ie. do papers state Saga school for instance?) The pics were pretty dark but a few features point to a potentially older piece : (1) Very quiet design (later designs typically busier) (2) Well hammered plate (possibly overly so for an artistic element to simulate waves for the boats on top front?) (3) Single ana (kozuka) (possibly older styled?) I can't tell much about quality of iron in these pics though maybe one of you can...

I see the ears but where are the horns?

    Tsuba Theme

Grev - Yeah, I bought a rough tsuba off him so I could practice removing rust (with a bone). His pictures were very bad, in hand it is not bad little tsuba and had less rust than I hoped for! The inlay is mostly worn off and it has a few nicks. But I had not problems with the seller. Here is a short thread discussing that tsuba : http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/26424-another-motif-question/

Looks like one I saw on eBay a while back, seller tsuba_shaun by chance?
  24. Bruno, Great tsuba!
  25. I am going to create a post in the Tosogu forum with seller pics. They were very dark so I’m going to touch them up a bit. When I get the tsuba in hand, I will post better pics.
