  1. That might explain why I haven't been able to find anything that is similar.
  2. Not really an area of expertise for me, what school and era for this one? Silver colored soft metal encased border. The grooves in this border match the actual edge of the tsuba as you can see in the one image with a piece missing from the border metal. The geese are dark colored except for there bellies which are lighter colored (gold-ish colored). Size: Height: about 69mm Width: about 64mm thickness: about 4~5mm.

    Just In

Yeah, I would agree on mid Edo as well for Stephen's but that is just based on the pictures. Iron quality is hard to judge in images. It very well could be earlier as it does share early era characteristics such as minimalistic design as well as muted inlay colors.

    Real Or Fake?

Yeah, the "experts". Surely, they have several thousand posts here at NMB???

    Just In

You mean this one? If so, I would say your tsuba is much nicer!

Very close to this one which is labelled Early Edo Heianjo. Yours looks later based on iron quality and inlay seems newer...

    School For This One

Florian - Yeah, I am thinking later Akasaka makes the most sense. And I agree, a pretty nice looking one!!
  11. Hi Ford - Yeah, a fine cast indeed. It even has the look of age to it though, I guess it is pretty easy to allow corrosion to do its thing. Or even help it along if you want to.
  12. Attached is a well handsome and well designed Tsuba. However, upon looking closer at the images in detail, do I see signs of it being a cast? I enhanced the shadows and circled the suspicious areas... And if it is a cast, would it be a modern one? Or one of those casts made way back when? Or perhaps not cast at all?

    School For This One

Are the circles supposed to be stars? And Hamfish, I will let definately let you know if I am not interested.
  14. I was thinking it could be Akasaka school based on the style, rim, thickness, and seppa. Though I see no evidence of 3 fold construction and although seller claims .6 cm thickness, the rim pics seem thinner to my eyes anyway. My second choice would be Shoami. Also, any thoughts on era? Vertical (H): about 7.8cm horizontal (W): about 7.6cm depth (D): about 0.6cm
  15. Thanks for the info, that sounds like a great service.

    Real Or Fake?

I am not a bronze guy but my first thought was this was one of those chinese fakes but perhaps I am incorrect. And the mei is on the wrong side...

    Tsuba Etc

Grev - From the pics I see, they also looked normally carved. They are not super closeups like yours, however.

    Tsuba Etc

Grev - Are you referring to the first one I posted, my little tosho with the flower? If so, that one shows normal carving. If the one I just posted, that one I do not own but will check seller pics to see if there are closeups that might show (when I get home tonight) Pat
  24. They sold quick!

    Tsuba Etc

I was looking at a few Tsuba I had bookmarked and noticed this one and said, hmmmm, that partial mei looks kinda familiar... Anyone agree? ps. I superimposed the mei from my tsuba onto the one in question.
