  1. I just purchased a Waki with the exact Mei that has Tokubetsu Hozon certificate noting it is (Sho-Dai) so it is definite that the first gen Yukihiro signed some swords this way.
  2. Franco, Those were my thoughts exactly. If the blade turns out half decent it probably was a good buy. They were trying to get $1800 for it.
  3. Took a chance and won an auction for a blade described as follows for $600: ANTIQUE KANENORI SAMURAI SHORT SWORD Antique Japanese Koto Period, samurai short sword (wakizashi) by Kanenori: the blade length (nagasa) of 51cm, with a medium point (chu-kissaki); the temperline (hamon) of somewhat pointed curves (gunome) and the forging pattern (kitae) of somewhat burl-wood grain (mokume); with a silvered collar (habaki); in a wood storage scabbard (saya) Will take some detailed pics when I get it. Hopefully, I did not make a huge mistake at this low price.
  4. Paul - thanks, that makes sense. Mark
  5. Mark - Is it unusual for it not to mention a group or date?
  6. Was hoping a translation of this NBTHK paper would help pinpoint which Kanesada made this sword.

    Ribbed Saya

This was very helpful. I do want to have a koshirae made and was offered a ribbed saya that already fits the blade well. I would then need to find all the other items, tsuba, etc. It would be great if I could find a reputable establishment that could provide everything. I will look at past posts on this forum to see who is recommended.

    Ribbed Saya

Can anyone advise if a ribbed saya would be period correct for 1530's Mino Kanesada blade? If not, when were these used? Thanks,
  9. Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I have already received some PM's pointing me to some excellent resource material. I can see I have a lot of reading and studying ahead.
  10. My name is Mark and I'm new to the forum so I wanted to introduce myself. I am a novice in this area and am looking to invest a little in Japanese swords instead of the stock market. My first purchase was a blade by Hokke Nobufusa. After receiving it, I am hooked. I am now actively looking for an older, possibly Hizen blade. I really appreciate all the information and knowledge on this forum and hope to use it to avoid any costly mistakes.
