  1. With all the great minds of the board I'm sure someone can anyone conjure up something better than what I have going. So far what I see is on the Fuchi is 2 regular Joe's, the guy to the left is telling his buddy "lets get the hell out of here, a big fire is headed this way"! on the Kashira a different story, this guy is as happy as can be. He's like " I just saved a bunch of money on my Cart insurance after switching to Geico", and decided to splurge on a new set of cloths. Wife told me I always had a special sense of humour, I guess she's right because I'm technically talking to myself on this thread
  2. Could I get some insight from the Tosogu aficionados as to what the theme could be? There appears to be 2 people on the Fuchi. Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi Sasa, sorry for the delay. This one sold a while back, forgot to update it. If mods could place it where it belongs plz. Thx
  4. Hi Oliver, please change your profile picture as it is my company logo and created by my designer. Thank you.

    Spoils Of War

Okay maybe the title should be more along the lines of something like.. "recent finds", or "latest acquisitions"... In search for some Nihonto/Katchu inventory I picked up some fittings that are pleasing to look at, so I guess to me the difficulty of finding worthy inventory is the war aspect and stumbling across these items in the process are the spoils. Anyways being a dealer and rather than just listing items for sale I'd like to get some feedback from members as to what your favourite of the bunch is, apologies in advance for the poor iPhone pics as its not the best way to judge. Seeing how the thread goes I may add some more higher end shots if I get the chance. For example the upper right tsuba in the first image has the 12 animals of the zodiac along the mimi which doesn't get picked up in the upper view so I guess I'll ask you based on what you can see. Most of the pieces are papered, even toku for one of them. I'll start in adding my fav which is the Muromachi Heianjo in the upper left of the second image. What's Yours??? Don't be shy to add your 2 cents.
  6. All very nice items, good purchase Ray!
  7. What a lovely thread and well documented follow up of the show. It was a pleasure meeting many of you. Thank you to the Italian NTK and Francesco for the detailed and excellent compilation of the show. Jean appreciate you mentioning the Oei Katana, it was an excellent piece and some of you might have had the chance to see it during the Kantei that was presented in the middle... coincidentally Pete, it was mounted in a similar koshirae with a tsuba that looks similar to the one you posted. Unfortunately it only got an attribution to Umetada, nothing more specific, please see attached kanteisho. Hope this helps.
  8. In the last stages of final prep... the venue looks great and its going to be a great weekend! Looking forward to seeing you in the flesh.
  9. Quality indeed, I like the sizing of the Fuchi.
  10. I was told that this piece was more of a challenge task (somewhat Utsushi) for the smith, to make a much older piece from Nanbokucho period... and typically the smiths only had old books/drawings to go by so its Muneyasu's interpretation. Not sure how accurate that assumption is.
  11. Sorry John, just contacted my hosting and the issue has been resolved. It had to do with a mix up with my old website being integrated. Should be working well now. Thank you Uwe and Ian, it helps a lot. The proportions on this kabuto are spectacular and for those attending the Samurai Art Expo will have the opportunity to view it in hand. I wanted to know more about what I had before the gents over there tell me in person
  12. Thank you Steve, actually I didn't do the complete translation yet so again a big thank you for that. Now that we have his complete mei it was a background of the smith that I was after since I lack literature with relation to katchu. Looking forward to finding out more, thank you in advance for those who chime in.
  13. Hi Katchu enthusiasts, reaching out because I don't have much resources with regards to armorers mei's. I have a kabuto by what I think is Myochin Muneyasu... he was active mid Edo, correct? If its possible to get as much info about him and this piece it would be much appreciated.
  14. Great Job Dave!!! Nicely displayed "I put the kyubi and sendan no ita on the Aka-Domaru on the wrong sides and one dou backwards. I thought it would be funny for an educated katchu person in Japan to watch it and say, ah, stupid gaijin." I love your ability to tease even if the interview is still a pretty big deal. You've done your time and earned your badges... nothing to prove
  15. The second one is all matching solid silver fittings that make your eyes spin when you see it in hand. All bearing the Asano kamon at every little corner you look. Has the Kozuka and Wari-Kogai in the same theme, you can't see it in the pictures but the Mon on the Wari kogai is stick to only one side so there is a point that overlaps the non-carrying side. Enjoy.
  16. Very nice Ed, thanks for the revival! I was meaning to show a couple items a while back but lost the track of the thread. Had these 2 nice Daisho Koshirae that I absolutely love. First is all matching Dragon and Mt. Fuji theme, in Shakudo and papered.
  17. Good idea Andi! Was at the DTI this year and I'm sure I missed some of you there without even knowing. John here is the link of the lectures and events with the people presenting. Keep in mind things could still be modified in the near future but it should be what is written. The direct link is provided https://samuraiartexpo.com/talks-schedule-2/ Also the prices have been updated to what is on the pamphlet.
  18. Thank you Michael for setting the record straight. This will be a yearly event, the intention is for it to be like the DTI of Europe, but with other forms of Samurai related art, not just swords. It might also be something similar to the big US shows that take place once a year. There is no direct affiliation with any current ongoing events, the organizers are a small group of very well known and reputable Japanese and European dealers and they also want visitors to have an Educational experience. The prices on the flyer are the updated ones, the 50€ 3 day pass covers full entry for 15th, 16th, and 17th.
  19. Will be an exciting event, I will be an exhibitor there and hopefully be able to meet some of you in the flesh. Don't mean to hijack your thread Paul, the flyer posted was the preliminary one made to get the word out at the recent Antique Samurai Armor & Arts Fair, for social media we can use this freshly printed version. If anyone has issues downloading and needs the file feel free to email me. SAE_PRINT NO BLEED_Flyer_Final.pdf
  20. Thanks Jean for the words of encouragement! For this I'll send them over to you, when your done with enjoying them just send them back
  21. Outstanding Ben, each image is superb... I have to readjust my jaw from being permanently down throughout the scrolling process. Congrats on your hard work! Jean, One or two of those swords in the last image look identical to some that I currently have, coincidentally they are an Ubu Zaimei Mitsutada and Etchu Norishige
  22. You nailed it Brian, your abilities to moderate are truly a gift. I'm terrible at typing and even more so explaining myself through writing so thanks for setting it straight. If I sounded sarcastic in any way I promise you it wasn't intentional... I'm not a person that likes using sarcasm in dialogue although I do like hearing it from others from time to time. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding Guido, ultimately I was in search for who it was used by and who it could have belonged to. I wouldn't be able to start that search if it wasn't for you identifying the mon in the first place, so to set the record straight I never doubted your source as you are one of the best here. Again grateful for your crucial contribution.
  23. I could see how that may have been interpreted alternately, but it actually was a big help Guido. Before your English and Kanji explanation I wouldn't have even known where to start in terms of explaining this mon to even start a search. Kanji opens up a door of many online Japanese sites to reference. Thanks again.
  24. great, after all these years of owning it now I know what it is
