    Sa signed blade

No offense was taken here by any of the comments. The help is greatly appreciated and I will refer him to this thread so he can base his offer accordingly. He and I are mainly military collectors and we severely struggle with anything beyond WWII. Thanks again for all the help!

    Sa signed blade

My friend was offered this blade recently and had a few questions regarding it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He's trying to determine originality so he can make a fair offer. TIA. 1) are the signatures Gimei or authentic? 2) is there a way to tell which honami appraiser signed the sword? 3) why only one mei per side? Here's a few picture he sent me of the mei and blade.
  3. Looks like its on eBay. No idea whose it is and translated. Guess I'm way off base. Lol. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 1572521435
  4. This is another blade sent to me by my friend I'm assisting. One side is sloppily cut and I'm having a tough time reading. The 2nd side I think I have, but having a brain-fart on the 3rd mei. I'm not sure if this is one he's buying, helping another friend, selling or what. Maybe I'll get some rest and try again tomorrow. TIA. Pic 1 1) aki 2) ? 3) ? 4) Yoshi Pic 2 1) shi 2) mozuke 3) looks like a fancy ju, this is one I recognize and just can't get it 4) ni
  5. Joe, thanks, that's looking like the route I'm going to go. Just need to sell the blades then find something to replace them with, hopefully before my wife spends it. Lol.
  6. Personally haven't seen the hardware but someone else will chime in. Nice find. My quick go at smith, although missing some mei: ?shu ju mune? I'm terrible with dates earlier than the showa period.
  7. Thanks for all the help guys. Stephen, you are correct. It's a friend of a friends museum who was sending me mei to have translated that day. Posted some of his blades here for confirmation or if I didn't know something. Anyways, we did not know he was going to list it on eBay, nor did we think he was serious about selling it after offering it to us for $4000.
  8. Very nice example!
  9. Thanks guys. David, I'm not sure, these were the pictures provided to me. I'll check with the owner. Edit: no stamps
  10. I have: 1) ? Or no 2) seki or Shu 3) ju 4) Yoshi 5) ? 6) Saku. Thanks in advance.
  11. I have ? ju kanenori kore saku. Not sure if I've got most of it or not. mei on this one for kane looks a bit strange. TIA.
  12. I'm not seeing any hada. Looks like nie to me when angled in the light correctly. Camera isn't happy doing macros (why I spent $600 on it when it doesn't do its job I don't know).
  13. Got some more pics of the hamon. These ones were painful to take, eyes are still adjusting.
  14. More pics. Best I can do, should take a class with Moses becerra on nihonto photography.
  15. Thanks, Klaus! I should have it in hand to check out soon. From the pictures I was sent I just can't tell if it is a gendaito or showato, even though slough's lists as gendaito smith. I'm leaning towards showato from pics I do have but might be pleasantly surprised after holding in hand. Will hopefully have better pics up soon.
  16. Thank you very much.
  17. Thanks guys. Here's some more pictures.
  18. Thanks, Chris! Lol, so much for a serpent. I haven't seen the mei so small before.
  19. Jean, lol that's fine. Stephen, finally got the pic ready to go.
  20. Lol ya no pics on it unfortunately. It'd a little tiny stamp by the Mekugi-Ana.
  21. Looking at a sword and no clue what this stamp is. Haven't come across one before. Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA!
  22. Thanks for the pics. Keep them coming . Wish I was able to make it out there this year.
  23. Thank you, Dr. Stein, I'm very pleased with it. I too have liked both the emura and nagamitsu examples I've seen. This is my 1st nagamitsu. I previously owned just an emura blade but it was bent and in poor condition. I sold it a while back to fund another knife I wanted at the time.
  24. I believe this kanenori is in sloughs, I could be wrong though and will have to look when I get home.
  25. That's what I've been thinking about. My other Type 98s are older blades, short sword 1700s-1800s, and the longer sword late koto (thanks mdiddy for your help!), both mumei, plan on hanging on to them. I really like these nicer type 3 fittings with the gendaito blades after finally getting an example. I've owned some of the poorer type 3s and didn't get too excited over anything about them, on the nagamitsu I like everything about the fittings and blade.
