  1. I have a wakizashi in Type 98 mounts that has a shorter saya & latch on the tsuba, but the tsuka is about standard size. The sword I'm referring to is the Type 98 on the top of the wrack to compare to other, standard sized, gunto. It's an older blade that is mumei.
  2. Dated Showa 19 & signed kanesada.
  3. In regards to the other sword on eBay he sold, it could have been mumei, star stamped, emura, or another nagamitsu. Chances are that it's a nice blade. Your nagamitsu is very nice and is correct. The nagasa is the measurement of the blade from the notch on the spine under the habaki to the tip of the blade in a straight line. Although I know that some are not very fond of Nagamitsu, I personally like his blades, I currently have 4. The nagasa on each blade are about 24 3/4", 25 3/4", 26 1/4", and 27 1/2". There was 1 unsigned blade in the same mounts that was very characteristic of Nagamitsu that sold on eBay 6-12 months ago. I don't have pictures otherwise I would share them.
  4. Nice find, I'm a Nagamitsu fan myself, especially in these mounts. What's the Nagasa? I'm assuming the eBay seller was reisel or something along those lines.
  5. I'd probably have to pay someone to take mine given all my medical issues.
  6. There's supposedly a couple of collectors in Dallas that exhibit their collections. I think the samurai armor one currently has the blades and other art in Europe at the moment.
  7. The sword is correct. This has been listed on GB for some time with no action. I can't comment on where the market is on it today, it's all over the place.
  8. I grew up in Houston, but now live in the Dallas area.
  9. Increased rates are a bummer, but a I have come to know a lot of the local postal workers and all of them are good folk just trying to get by in the world like the rest of us. They have to put up with a lot of unfair nonsense that I believe is a result of policy rather than incompetence. I understand there's always a rogue individual as can be said for any business. During the holding season, my mailman was delivering packages at 6 am, again between 2-4 for normal deliveries, and again after 6, daily. I guess you can net the difference between falling sword prices and increased transaction costs and say you're about even at the end of the day
  10. Nice to see another collector from Texas!
  11. In addition to the sword Jean just shared, Mark has 3 Gendaito, all star stamped, for sale. Also, Ray has 3 Gendaito for sale. All of the swords listed by Mark and Ray are cheaper than the Kanenori above. Just something to compare and consider. Here are the links to those swords. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/18469-three-gendaito-for-sale/?do=findComment&comment=190390 http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/18461-3-star-stamped-gendai-swords-for-sale-2k-each/?do=findComment&comment=190176
  12. There is no point in removing the handle, that is correct. The blade is a mass produced, machine made, arsenal blade. If it were mine, I'd probably sell the sword and keep the tassel for another, but to each their own.
  13. It's an army dress/parade sword with mon and tassel. Both look like they're in nice shape.
  14. Ryan, IIRC, he said it was mumei and thought it might be Kanewaka?
  15. A friend of mine recently sent me some pictures of a nice Wakizashi he has I thought I'd share here. It has a very nice Hamon.
  16. I have not seen a black one. I have seen a number of bag tassels, what look like drapery tassels, etc. tied or braided on which I imagine the vet or family added post war. IIRC they had black tassels/knots pre-WWII, but I'll have to check Fuller & Gregory or Dawson's to confirm.
  17. Thank you very much gentlemen. Looks like I goofed the 7 for a 9. I should have gotten that correct as well as Bizen Osafune. Again, many thanks for your time and help.
  18. 2nd blade. I apologize for the poor pictures. ? yama ? minamoto ? ? ? ? naga ? ?
  19. Hello, I've been trying to translate the following blades for a friend of mine. The first is a showa era, and the 2nd earlier that I suspect is gimei. Anyways, here is the showa period nakago. I have: Date (right) - Showa 19 nen 4 gatsu jyu hi Top left - ? 11 do 1 3 ? (last mei looks similar to Uji but is missing 1 stroke) Bottom center - ? tsukura/michi taka yasu/taka/yoshi? Smith - ? toshitsugu saku kore
  20. The kanji on the fittings & spine are the assembly numbers. The kanji on the scabbard looks like shigemasa, haven't ever seen that before. Don't know that it means anything, is the name of the owner, name of whoever made the saya, etc. The other symbol on the tsuba is a manu stamp if I remember correctly. I'll have to look it up when I can get the books out or maybe someone here knows off the top of their head.
  21. http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/oshigata/shigefu2.jpg Looks like the same smith based on the mei and nakago http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/oshigata/shigefus.jpg The blade and fittings look nice but the tip would deter me. Not sure what this smith historically brings or if it's worth a restoration.
  22. I will donate a 1-year JSSUS membership & an iron tsuba.
  23. Sure thing. I have a couple of swords from my personal collection I'll be listing/selling and a few swords on consignment some friends asked me to list on their behalf. I'll post the links to each sword in the appropriate section, and will post the link to that thread here. You'll have to forgive the amateur photos, I'm horrible on photographing everything, especially swords. And obviously if purchased directly vs through eBay, I will donate the 10% to NMB vs eBay, which I would much rather do anyways.
  24. Steve, you guys would know more than me on these items. I'm used to just a name or name & date on WWII blades. Like I said, the fittings are righteous & the blade fits nicely as should as well as the blade itself looks like your standard WWII produced blade. Anyways, I don't think I have a place for this sword in my collection so I will be listing it on eBay at auction starting at $0.99 and just letting it go where it goes. Hope to at least get the bulk of my money back... Guess you win some and lose some when buying blindly. Thanks for all of the help!
