Hi guys, I don't have any of my books with me and still not at the stage where I can start without them, any help on this translation would be great. Cheers Matt

Hi guys, This one is hard, there's corrosion of some sorts through both sides. Any help appreciated with the date and some hints on the smith. Cheers Matt
-
Ahh just saw you're also Melbourne JimP I thought you were giving some lip! Cheers Matt
-
I love you guys!! thanks so much for the support and help - @JimP, being from Melbourne is awesome, we have Aussie rules football and proper coffee FYI! @Jean, I had already worked out Kanenori but JimP is right, there is a lot of variance with that name which has been fun to explore! Massive thanks to @Thekrish for putting me in the right direction, and only revealing enough to keep me learning! @ROKUJURO unfortunately I don't own this, it's up for auction here: http://morphyauctions.hibid.com/lot/23996396/wwii-Japanese-samurai-sword-/?q=WWII+Japanese+Samurai+Sword&sort=2&ref=catalog Cheers Matt

Hi everyone, Trawling the web looking at this stuff as usual I came across this signature and don't know what it is but the kanji seems a little off?? Unfortunately I can't get anywhere close to working this sig out so any help in the right direction would be great. Also the 'cut' of the strokes seems so smooth as if they were drawn in?? I've also never seen the second kanji before, not that that's saying much... Anyway would love to hear your opinions! Cheers Matt

Hi guys, I'm having some trouble with the "season of year" for dating this Showa blade. I've got SHO-WA KANOE-TATSU ?? Dated ( ? ) 1940? Am I on track? Much thanks Matt
-
Ahh sorry Jean, got a little carried away with the new UI Thanks for replies! Cheers Matt

Hi Gents, This looks a little weird, the last kanji looks added later or by a different hand - I cant make any of it out.

Thanks Grey Cheers Matt

Hi guys, Is the fact that the kanji grooves are bright like the end of the nakago that hasn't oxidized as much a sign of the mei being added later? Most of the time I see that the mei ages in line with the surrounding surface age or is this normal? Cheers Matt
-
Ah! thanks so much guys... Yamato, that's a school or style? I should have seen Kane.... show's I'm still a rookie! Cheers Matt
-
Hi Guys, This one has me stumped, I have listed what I've got so far and can recognize Dai-jo but there seems to be Dai-something above that? dai-jingu - 大神 ? Leave the smith name if the last kanji is indeed hiro Cheers Matt.... and as always

Hi guys, Thanks for looking into this smith, I too couldn't find any reference to the smith as shown above either. I don't actually own this piece, I like to pretend I'm loaded and scour the online auctions translating as I go. I found this one to be a challenge! Cheers Matt -

Hi George, Yes, you're right.. I looked through the book I have Modern Sword Smiths 1868 - 1945 and it's definitely showa! Thanks for your help! So if I'm correct the date would be August 14th 1939? Matt
-
Thanks George! Fancy Kanji to beginners is a bit rough, so this works out to be 13 years into the period ( top 2 kianji ) August the 24th? Anyone have an idea on the period? Matt
-
Hey guys, This date format has me stumped! The Kanji between 3 and 8th I can't even find? Usually I'd press on but with lack of clarity in the photo and some Kanji I've never seen help would be awesome Cheers Matt
-
Thanks Piers, - Fujiwara masayasu saku? @Patrick I didn't see your post so no problem Peter, that's just the seppa - not habaki in photo.. I'll try and get some more shots up today. Cheers Matt
-
Hi guys, Can't work out this kanji before ...saku? So far I have Fujiwara ? ? Saku. My best guess is that it maybe Fujiwara ?-sada saku. Cheers Matt
-
Hi Everyone, Can someone help with this mei translation? Firstly I wonder why the kanji look so faint at the top of the smiths signature, I can only make out (someone)yoshi saku. Then there's the other side, and this is either more worn down or a worse knock off job? What does everyone think about the kanji and also the shape of the Nakago? Cheers Hammer
