  1. Thanks guys, really appreciate the info! Matt
  2. Hi guys, I don't have any of my books with me and still not at the stage where I can start without them, any help on this translation would be great. Cheers Matt
  3. Hi guys, This one is hard, there's corrosion of some sorts through both sides. Any help appreciated with the date and some hints on the smith. Cheers Matt
  4. Ahh just saw you're also Melbourne JimP I thought you were giving some lip! Cheers Matt
  5. I love you guys!! thanks so much for the support and help - @JimP, being from Melbourne is awesome, we have Aussie rules football and proper coffee FYI! @Jean, I had already worked out Kanenori but JimP is right, there is a lot of variance with that name which has been fun to explore! Massive thanks to @Thekrish for putting me in the right direction, and only revealing enough to keep me learning! @ROKUJURO unfortunately I don't own this, it's up for auction here: http://morphyauctions.hibid.com/lot/23996396/wwii-Japanese-samurai-sword-/?q=WWII+Japanese+Samurai+Sword&sort=2&ref=catalog Cheers Matt
  6. Hi everyone, Trawling the web looking at this stuff as usual I came across this signature and don't know what it is but the kanji seems a little off?? Unfortunately I can't get anywhere close to working this sig out so any help in the right direction would be great. Also the 'cut' of the strokes seems so smooth as if they were drawn in?? I've also never seen the second kanji before, not that that's saying much... Anyway would love to hear your opinions! Cheers Matt
  7. Thanks guys! as always really appreciate the teachings I get in here!!!!!!
  8. Hi guys, I'm having some trouble with the "season of year" for dating this Showa blade. I've got SHO-WA KANOE-TATSU ?? Dated ( ? ) 1940? Am I on track? Much thanks Matt
  9. Ahh sorry Jean, got a little carried away with the new UI Thanks for replies! Cheers Matt
  10. Hi Gents, This looks a little weird, the last kanji looks added later or by a different hand - I cant make any of it out.
  11. Thanks Grey Cheers Matt
  12. Hi guys, Is the fact that the kanji grooves are bright like the end of the nakago that hasn't oxidized as much a sign of the mei being added later? Most of the time I see that the mei ages in line with the surrounding surface age or is this normal? Cheers Matt
  13. Ah! thanks so much guys... Yamato, that's a school or style? I should have seen Kane.... show's I'm still a rookie! Cheers Matt
  14. Hi Guys, This one has me stumped, I have listed what I've got so far and can recognize Dai-jo but there seems to be Dai-something above that? dai-jingu - 大神 ? Leave the smith name if the last kanji is indeed hiro Cheers Matt.... and as always
  15. Hi guys, Thanks for looking into this smith, I too couldn't find any reference to the smith as shown above either. I don't actually own this piece, I like to pretend I'm loaded and scour the online auctions translating as I go. I found this one to be a challenge! Cheers Matt
