This is a Wakizashi from my collection it looks like someone has been handing the blade for the last 60 yr and there are marks all over it from being touched i have been using Uchiko pwder to try clean it up but it seems to take forever i was wondering it i keep at it will it bring it back to life and if by looking at the blade any idea on age Im also told it was most likely a tank commanders sword it this possible thank Steve

Hi George The binding is pretty bad below is a photo i found of it from its original sale but i would say the cover has been removed a few time after that before i got it and the are bit of the wrap missing maybe carefully removing the cover and framing it in a double glass frame so you can see both side may help in keep it in good condition Steve

These mounts are off a sword i picked up a short time ago and was wonder for a little advice on weather to have the tsuka rewraped under the cover the wrap is about 40% deteriorated I have had the cover off once but its very fragile The Blade is signed Hizen no Kuni ju Ichimonji Hiroto and dated 1740 I was wondering would I add value to the sword if i had it rewraped or would I be best to leave it as found All the mount including the tsuka are numbered 71 not sure if that means anything thanks in advance Steve

Thank you for all the info i live in Australia near sydney so its pretty dry and sword is in a display case that well sealed off

Could someone please point me in the right direction for sword care there are a lot of sites out there but want to make sure i get it right Eg how offen to clean how much oil to use best kit to buy that sort of stuff thanks in advance steve

Thanks Uwe I took the sword out in the early morning sunlight and could see heaps so ill have to get some photos in natural light and get the uploaded

Hi Roy The script on the Tsuka has translation on it one side Japanese the other is english first bit a bit hard to read but rhe rest says "first eductional aircorps Specail Sergeant Major Masake Nakamura" I was confused with a Sergeant Major having an officers sword but have found out while rare it did happen with high ranked NCOs

Most WW2 tsubas ive seen are brass but this seems to be copper or similar all fittings are matching and high end and come off a sword signed Hizen no Kuni ju Ichimonji Hiroto and come with crest has anyone else come across these

from my understanding it is unokubi zukuri starts 2 inches from tsuba and runs down 10 inches added a another photo shows it better

Hi I just picked up a sword in WW2 mount that is signed Hizen no Kuni ju Ichimonji Hiroto im told its hiroto 1740 2nd generation school of hizen tadayoshi it unokubi-zukuri with suguha hamon so im told would love to know if the translation i was given is right can anyone point me it the right direction to find out more about it
