  1. duhh! One of the most famous Showa era swordsmith and I didnt recongnize him, thanks and Semper Fi
  2. Nakago looks like a late shinto-shinshinto era blade? Thanks in advance
  3. How new are we talking about here? As long as its Japanese and not a modern repro i will keep it and remember it as a mistake, otherwise its returning to the seller......
  4. To be honest I was looking for a Shinto Tanto in good polish, for $400 its a mistake but not one I wont recover from, so is the general consensus that this blade came off the top end of a Tachi/Katana and was reshaped or just a poor quality made tanto with sloppy nakago?
  5. The shape is what attracted me to the Tanto, I would presume the sloppy nakago indicates poor worksmenship?
  6. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-BRING-BACK- ... true&rt=nc Any input on this small Tanto would be appreciate it, school? Age? (shinshinto?) etc
  7. Lance Thank you very much for the information, the hamon does in fact stop at the hamachi and I will try to get a better picture of it in the outside natural light tomorrow when I get the chance. The blade does have some flaws but looks healthy enough for another polish. also Lance, you were exactly right regarding the Tsuba, I rubbed some Uchiko powder on the tsuba and faintly made out 信家
  8. Yes sir, does these pictures help?
  9. Good morning gents Picked up another Nihon-to and would like to hear from the expert's input on this blade's age and school as I am still very much learning. This is one of my shortest Katana in the collection measuring only 24 inches in length and from the patina on the nakago is this a late Muramachi era blade? The tsuba looks like it may have had a maker's signature once upon a time but I cannot for the life of me get a good focus and it may be just be my eyes and wishful thinking getting to me all inputs are welcomed and appreciated!
  10. Showa year 12 , april lucky day, it does help being able to read Chinese :D Thank you very much gents, that puts my mind at ease, I would appreciate it if you can give me more relevant information on this smith or the blade itself
  11. I got these pictures send to me by a local person who wishes to sell me his father's bringback sword. From what I can tell the sword looks to be in great shape and Yasutoku is to my understanding a decent smith working out of Yasukuni. How is it then that the nakago is so.....unevenly shaped? Could this be a Gimei? After some more research, is this nakago what they would call Kijimomo-gata? Sry, I'm just used to seeing almost all Ubu shaped nakago from lack of experience
  12. fake post war "Tojo flag" made in the Philippines, sry but there is very little to no value to this flag
  13. I did not find any showa arsenal markings and unfortunately the pictures are of poor quality due to time constraints. The owner who has no idea how to treat a Japanese sword correctly makes me cringe everyltime he smudges the sword with his finger all over. http://s1199.photobucket.com/user/swabl ... t=3&page=1
  14. Please and thank you also, did this smith make Gendaito? The sword I'm looking at sure has all the signs of one
  15. Mariuszk, you are absolutely right, Ive only been in this hobby for less than a year now and have much to learn, but even I know the difference between what a master polisher can do to a blade of this kind instead of a cheap amatuer polisher who might damage the blade in the process. As for the translation, I got more of a 文择 then any characters Im aware of being a Chinese speaker
  16. J Reid, I was curious as to why would a signature be purposely removed and can this one still be read? thanks
  17. Greetings I was cruising the local ad today and found a Wakizashi for $150 and i figuered what the hey and handed over the money. As you can see the blade is in rough shape throughout but the saving graces are that there's no delamination and the mountings are still very fair. Im thinking the signature is a faked signature due to how lightly it was chiseled into the Nakago but as an novice Im still learning, thanks Tim
  18. Oh not at all, i really didnt have that much money into this blade and bought it as an oddity if anything else and yes, part of the Tsuba has been deformed abit over the years weather through battle or carelessness. I do realize that this blade is very tired and sending it in for a polish would be expensive and not worth the expense therefore it will stay the way it is. Any other examples of Tsumaki like this one? It looks to be lacquered bamboo but i cant tell for sure
  19. I picked up this massive 31 inch blade last month for a decent price despite the flaws on the blade and the crude battle wrap. The seller thinks this blade is a Satsuma rebellion era blade due to the crude wrap but i would like some second opinions. The engravings on the blade shows ""Hachi Man Dia Bo Satsu" or the god of war/ god of archery, depending on how you translate the characters. On the opposite side is what I believe is a Ginkgo tree, which is a tree planted outside the Usa Shrine dedicated to this particular warrior. The blade is right at 31.5 inches
  20. More terrible pics from the seller's camera phone :| http://s1199.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... 2.jpg.html http://s1199.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... 8.jpg.html http://s1199.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... 9.jpg.html http://s1199.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... 5.jpg.html http://s1199.beta.photobucket.com/user/ ... 5.jpg.html
  21. I'll go take a look saturday, the sword's condition and the rust is an obvious turn off and the 2 hour it would take to get drive there dosnt help either
  22. Thank you for your wonderful input Tcat......... Anyway, here are more pics of the sword in question and the Mei again, if this one is a fake its one of the best ones ive ever seen http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa4 ... d001-1.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa4 ... d002-1.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa4 ... der/tn.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa4 ... tolast.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa4 ... tolast.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa4 ... mei001.jpg
  23. damn! , anyway that still suprises me as the nakago is very well cut, the kissaki is a chu kissaki.........., i'll get back to you guys on this one, thanks!
  24. I dont mean to doubt you but i highly, highly doubt that the sword in question is a fake, not that im a very experienced collector but i can tell fake from real
