NTHK or NBTHK ? To papered a sword there are : the NTHK society and the NBTHK society. How make a choice ? I heard than the two of them are very good, and than the NTHK can give you info about why the sword presented is papered or rejected. I work now on the translation of the mei and stamps of a 66.3 cm blade who was a gift, and think to present it for paper. Which society do you recommend for that ? Thanks very much for your help. Almost all sellers in yahoo Japan bidding against their own item. As you say, is to rise prices. I see that to in dealers auction. Two years ago I buy a tatami yoroi, the seller before the auction begin ask me how much I want to pay, speek with other dealers and at the end, surprise, I win it at the price we speak before, still a good deal I think , but a lot of work to do on it. Your paper is a Torokusho. In order to legally own a sword in Japan it has to be registered at the education board of the prefecture, its the copy of this paper you that you have. It needed to have the export paper. It said : tanto, 29.8cm. sori 0.5, 2 mekugi-ana, name on the tang : Masamune Christophe

Ken, you said "in general, you get the MOST for your money buying a wakizashi." I fully understand that for any collection, there is a budget, and we always look for the "best value for money," but I thought that even if we want to limit a collection at a particular smith, period or school , having different type of blades can be rewarding. I'm just starting a collection, this is why I asked the question.

I'm allowed to ask this question because it is because that is what I feel. It is clear that as K says Mariusz there be more daito and wakizashi on the market, I see it in sales or in stores here. And I really feel that the tanto is the poor relation among collectors while I think that the work of forging and pollissage is the same, if not more important, for a tanto.

It seems that the majority of Japanese sword collectors prefer wakizashi and others swords over 2 shaku than tanto. Is there a particular reason? or is it simply a matter of taste? Christophe

Hi Ruben. now the habaki fit to the fuchi in proportion , and the nakago ana of the tsuba to, so I think I will ask to remove a bit of material from the koiguchi so the habaki fits inside correctly> I know a professional in Kyoto who can do it and the tsunagi for a reasonable price.

I have this koshirae for a long time now, and thinking to mount it (add tsunagi) but the habaki is a little to big. I can ask to adjust it to the saya or ask for a new one (habaki and tsuba are shakudo). New shakudo are very very expensive. I face two choice : adjust ot ask to a new one. Did some one can help me ?
