Thank You. Any idea of age and does anything translate to a price paid when purchased? WWII bring back was mentioned but I'm doubtful it's that old?? Howard Dennis

Thanks to everybody who responded and tried to help me. For some reason the delete option is not available to me and although I was able to delete the first photos I can't edit the original post. Masunoki's suggestion was the best option so here are the new photos. Howard Dennis

They were sent to me and I don't know how to convert them. How do I delete this post? Howard Dennis

Thank You, I thought there might be some other purpose than to fool someone into thinking it was old. Howard Dennis

Thanks Geraint for responding and the link. It was cheaper than a good book and look at all I learn about the culture just because of it. It will also be a good replacement tsuba on a sword being sold rather than let a better tsuba go down the road. Howard Dennis

Found this in local antique mall. It was so cheap I couldn't leave it. It measures 3 1/4 inches x 3 inches and even though labeled bronze it is magnetic and heavy iron. I'm 99% sure it's modern but wonder what it depicts and why was it made? Thanks for any help, Howard Dennis

Thanks again for all the help. To be honest I didn't invest in books about signatures because it was learn about the swords and have enough money leftover to actually buy some OR just own books. So let me see if I'm understanding what you all have posted. In order for the kanji to be Masazane the upper newer hole has to have taken out the righthand side of the bottom horizontal stroke AND the lefthand "foot" stroke. Am I seeing that correctly? Thank You all for helping me with this. Does this help in swaying your opinions in the same direction? Howard Dennis

Ray, another site translated this as Masanao. Could this be both or did they make a mistake? Just wondering what direction to go in researching the name. Thanks again, Howard Dennis

Bought this damaged okimono and wondering is the rider a specific person that I might be able to determine what would have been in his missing arms? Howard Dennis

Found this picture of a beautiful abumi online. I know it appears to have theme of Mons but then I remembered reading about hidden Christian symbols. Could this be one of those or is it definitely a family crest? Howard Dennis

Just found this online and had to add it to my collection. Even though incomplete it's really rare, really old and high quality and deserves to be saved. Howard Dennis

Thank you both for responding. I have never seen this style with the raised painting like Japanese Moriage. Live and learn as they say.Oh well at $12.50 I got it for the price of the wooden stand and much less than decorator value which is what I'll do with it. Appreciate the help again, Howard Dennis

I acquired this yesterday and wonder what it is? Age and signature translation if possible. It is 6 inches wide and 6 1/2 inches tall. Thanks, Howard Dennis

Just wanted to let you know I cleaned the Tsuba with lacquer thinner and it made a large difference, it looks a lot better now and has proper color and cross hatching. Howard Dennis
-
Dale, that is great! Thank You so much for the help. Howard Dennis
-
Thanks, yes it looks like it was slam banged together and I'll work to correct that. You and Chris may be right it may be just late low quality. The Tsuba does look repainted and I thought it was copper but it is magnetic and rings when struck. I can't see any cross hatching on the leaves but maybe the repaint is hiding that as the metals on the rim all have cross hatching. I'll see what the blade offers in a few days when I get a chance. Thanks to all for responding and making me feel better, Howard Dennis

If I end up stuck with this mess I will go ahead and dismount it and send more pictures. As it stands now I'm hoping to return it. I think if I could just find this tsuba online it would prove my point to seller. Wishful thinking?

This is painful but maybe it will help someone else. I believe I made a rookie mistake based on what I thought was a bargain. Yes I should have known too good to be true. I purchased a wakizashi online based on poor photos and believing I was dealing with another collector. It arrived this morning and besides the blade being junk I believe the fittings are all reproduction. What say you based on my own poor photos? Does anyone recognize these as current or modern reproductions? Thanks, Howard Dennis
