  1. Guys, This guy is no nut case or innocent-but-incompetent fool. He is an entertaining scam artist. That's all. Hoanh
  2. Hi guys, This is a load of crap, but with a new twist and entertaining as hell, hehehe... Chinese fake, but they seem to have learned not to use the dremel tool. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seeking-Descendants-Japanese-WWII-Officer-Sword-Scabbard-US-Marine-Corps/262146439043?_trksid=p2046732.c100040.m2060&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107095009%26meid%3Dcd58b559ed074ddd8140fd7473fdf86c%26pid%3D100040%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D131654096534 Hoanh

    Mei Credibility

Alton, It's scratched in, not chiseled in by a sword smith. It's not acceptable by any standard. I would suggest sitting out on this one. Hoanh
  4. Brian, First off, I have a good tsuba I will commit to donate, regardless how we want to do this. A couple of suggestions: 1. A raffle like we did a couple of years ago. 2. Set up an auction for items donated, and all proceeds go to the forum. This might be a fun way to spruce up the holiday spirit. I'm sure there will be a zillion other ideas forthcoming from others. Regards, Hoanh
  5. I would guess gendaito, probably Kasama Shigetsugu den. Hoanh
  6. Glad to be of service and you are very welcome. Hoanh
  7. Stephen, There is an ebay seller by the moniker bushiart, based in Osaka, Japan, and sells fittings. I bet this is your guy. http://www.ebay.com/sch/bushiart/m.html?item=221919883462&hash=item33ab74b0c6%3Ag%3Ak~UAAOSw9r1V7~Wr&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Regards, Hoanh

    Iron Tsuba Id?

The surface pockmarks puzzle me. Were they meant for inlays, which have fallen off over time? Hoanh
  9. Greek comedy? Hoanh
Warmest regards, Hoanh
  11. Dont' forget paypal fees & shipping. These costs do add up, especially with transcontinental shipping. Hoanh
  12. Hi Neil, It's a Chinese fake! Andreas beat me to it!!! Hoanh
  13. Hi Francis, My first impression is that the mei is genuine and belongs to the 2nd generation Bitchu Yasuhiro. Nidai Yasuhiro is not as well-regarded as the Shodai, who is ranked Chu Josaku by Fujishiro. I think the price is quite a bargain. Disclaimer: please do your own due diligence and don't take my words for it! Regards, Hoanh
  14. Nice reading!!! Regards, Hoanh
  15. Yes, I already stipulated that it's a genuine nihonto. Beyond that ... Hoanh
  16. Carlos, Even with a lot of excellent, focused, zoomed-in photos, an assessment is difficult at best. With 4 photos of the blade shown, any real assessment is IMPOSSIBLE. Hoanh
  17. It's a genuine nihonto (the blade you are holding in the pics). Other than that, nothing else can be determined from the pictures. My best guess: Value: It's worth anywhere between 1 USD and $1,000,000 USD. Evaluation: It needs care. History: It's between 150 years old to 800 years old. Hoanh
  18. Very nice hand sketch Brian. I myself have two left hands. Hoanh
  19. More nakago mune stamps. on my Muto Hidehiro. on my Yoshu Hiromasa. Regards, Hoanh
  20. George, I am not well versed in acceptance stamps, but going through all 9 pages of the "Arsenal Stamps" forum http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/5999-arsenal-stamps/, I did not see the "Yama" stamp either. I'll add my pics just so we have a record. I like works of Yoshu Hiromasa, too - very nice choji midare with lots and lots of activities. Regards, Hoanh
  21. Mark, It looks to me like the boshi is an extension of the hamon, which is expected of Koto blades. I am going against the grain at the moment. Although literary searches by Jim, Klaus, and Peter only show Shinto smiths, the suguta suggests late Koto, and the boshi points to Koto. This is what radiologists would call a "discordant" finding. I am no expert, so please take my suggestion with a very large grain of salt. Regards, Hoanh
  22. Mark, You might want to take close up pictures of the boshi. These pictures will help with the assessment. The hamachi has been moved up significantly, so I don't know if pictures of the hamachi would be of any help. Hoanh
  23. Below are the stamps to which George referred (I think). They are on the nakago mune of my Muto Hidehiro. Another set of stamps on the nakago mune of my Yoshu Hiromasa. Regards, Hoanh
  24. Mark, The suguta suggests late Koto. It looks like it deserves a polish. I can see lots of nice activities, even in its current condition. Regards, Hoanh
  25. Hmmmm, this thread with all the drama is not even two weeks old. The supposed high bid was announced as $650 on Oct. 2nd - 3 days ago. Yet, the high bidder supposedly had been out of contact for 2 weeks. My math is not adding up. Hoanh
