  1. Stephen, I asked a few months ago, and the answer was a resounding no. Regards, Hoanh
  2. Grev, I think Piers is correct. It looks like Yamato, not Yamashiro as I thought. Regards, Hoanh
  3. Rog, An email in addition to the password is needed. Regards, Hoanh

  7. Gabriel, Thank you for the suggestions. I am using the manual (M) mode and know exactly what you are suggesting. I'll play with these variables and post more pictures. Regards, Hoanh

  12. Greetings, The attached mei stumped me. I could only make out Muramasa and nothing else. I don't think this is a gimei attempt of the famous Muramasa line, but perhaps some unknown smith. Any help would be much appreciated as always. I believe this is a shinto blade, 28" nagasa. I don't have a picture of the suguta right now but will provide it tomorrow. Provided along with the nakago are some shots of the hamachi area showing a long yakidashi, the boshi, and some activities in between. Regards, Hoanh
  13. Thank you Darcy for the detail explanation. That helps to clear up a lot for me. Regards, Hoanh
  14. Thank you very much, gentlemen. I have taken you pictures and annotated them to make sure I understand you correctly. Darcy, Is this the jinie area to which you referred? Would you mind annotating my picture to indicate the area to which you referred? That would help me eliminate the guess work on my part. Also, how would you describe the boshi in this case? The boshi is very, very deep (hence the ichimai with question mark). It may not be clear in the picture, but there is no turn back. So, would it simply be described as Yakitsume? Matt, Regards, Hoanh
  15. Nathan, You will never get a lemon from Grey, and the three tsuba you listed are all in good condition. It all comes down to a matter of personal taste at this point. Choose what you like most! If there is a chance for you to save up ~$800 in the near future, then I would definitely hold off on any purchase. For me personally, 1 good and attractive tsuba is more gratifying than 5 so-so ones. It's true of swords, too. But, it's a personal preference. Do as your heart tells you as that will really make you happy in the long run. We are all different, and I realize that. Have great fun! Regards, Hoanh
  16. Thank you Nathan. Regards, Hoanh
  17. Thank you Mariusz! Regards, Hoanh
  18. One more picture. Regards, Hoanh
  19. Greetings, I recently purchased a new lens with help from the tremendously helpful photography experts (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19214). I took out my Hoju daito for a photo session and the results are so pleasing that I had to share. While I am at it, I annotated the pictures with terminologies that I associate with the various features seen in the pictures. Please correct me if I use any terminology erroneously. I would rather be corrected than to keep misusing terminologies. Regards, Hoanh
  20. Richard, No problem at all. The person who sold me the lens also had the XSI body for sale for really cheap. It has been sold now, but I think I will hunt for another one locally. I have been sold on LiveView. It's too repetitive and tiresome to shoot, look, delete, and repeat! EDIT: I just posted pictures of my Hoju daito using the new lens viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19234&p=172793#p172793. Please visit!!! Regards, Hoanh
  21. Beautiful and graceful shape Hoanh
  22. Thank you Gabriel! Hoanh
  23. Gabriel, No problem at all about iterations! I do have a remote for mirror lockup and do have a very sturdy tripod. I don't now anything about LiveView, though. I can connect (by wire) my camera to my computer monitor, but don't actually see an image until I shoot. How can I see the camera's view on the computer screen as I am focusing without having to shoot a picture? Help would be most appreciated. Regards, Hoanh
  24. Greetings, I was lucky to have picked up an essentially new Canon EFS 60mm f/2.8 USM for $280 on local CL. Attached are two very quick shots (with no photoshop adjustments other than to downgrade the resolution) of a Ko-Katchushi in my collection (Richard should recognize this tsuba ). Anyhow, this lens is great - much better than my general purpose Canon EFS 17-85mm. The pictures came out very nicely with very little effort, and the working distance is manageable. My next try will be to photograph my swords. Once again, many thanks to all who helped me with my purchasing decision. Regards, Hoanh
  25. Thank you Richard. At this point, considering all of the feedbacks I received, I think the Canon EFS 60mm f/2.8 is my best option and is fairly affordable, too. Many, many thanks to all who pointed me in the right direction. Time to hunt... Regards, Hoanh
