Dayak Borneo tribal souvenir sword??????
phil reid replied to phil reid's topic in Translation Assistance
Thankyou for the translation, thought it might have been a WW2 souvenir piece from the inscription. -
Hi chaps , curious piece that I'm thinking is Indonesian Malay (Borneo dayak) tribal sword that's been souvenired and carved on with inscription, guessing alot depends on what's written on this . Any help with translation greatly appreciated

Iron tsuba standard so fittings not "tight". My guess was that its been swapped out to use tsuba and fuchi on a "better" piece before these were considered collectable, as to when its anyones guess. Thanks everyone, yes ill leave as is incase its a late war put together. Cheers

Couldn't find one listed with that # but don't think family would've listed , late fathers estate all all boxed away , blades all covered in Vaseline!
-
OK Gents , nco sword just in but my understanding is that the iron fuchi and tsuba should be copper? , the numbers match and at #4535 blade and scabbard are in right range. Its come out a collection atleast 40 to 60 years old and hole in handle looks drilled? Could it ne real but have had parts swapped out back in the days nco swords cost nothing and no one wanted them?

Hello chaps, what's your thoughts on the characters on the tang, look quite rough and made by another hand as compared to obverse side

WW2 showa stamped sword surrender tag
phil reid replied to phil reid's topic in Translation Assistance
Thank you Gentlemen . Thanks George, Collin picked this up down Mandurah for me and dropped of at the Perth legacy on Saturday and was on the lookout for you to see what you thought of the piece, see you at the next swap meet. Phil -
Thanks Chaps , yes thought the "flowers" were shorter than the Government seal , so family Maruni Gosan Giri Mon ? is there some significance to the tsuba being stamped numerous times as seems random, blades showa stamped but assuming tsubas earlier.
-
Sorry Gents , not sure if this is the correct spot to ask but have just received this WW2 sword and very curious as to what's written on the cloth tag, cotton and a bit brittle so trying to show as much as possible without damaging, Regards Phil (photos of tag if anyone was curious also). Apologies if on the wrong part of the forum cheers Phil

Morning chaps, Quick photo of blade and fittings, lights bad this morning. Standard military fittings, only showa acceptance stamp as extra to the tang, no other markings. Yes, plan to take some time to show blade and ww2 photos of the lady's father who was 2/9 Australian commando late war in the pacific and she tells me theres photos of her dad holding this blade after a fire fight with the Japanese , hopefully shell dig these up in next few days and ill move this over to the military site with a better idea of its WW2 history. Cheers Phil

Hi chaps , just picked up this officers blade and hopefully the womans posting me photos of her dad with the sword in new guinea ww2?? If I could have assistance with the tang translation to add to the history that would be superb. Thanks in advance Phil

Thanks, I like it also, was surprised at someones "why would you bother" comment. Whoever made this blade still had a great amount of talent and I thought it worth sharing with others.
